I did have a problem in a few places with the grain lifting on the balsa but
it did it with 2 different kinds of tape.

Yea, the 3D school sounds "interesting" !

Tonight I finished fitting the rudder to the second plane and then started to
work on the canopy hatch. First thing I needed was to make the hold down
tabs, 6 for each plane.

I made some 1/8" ply tabs and 1/8" ply washers as spacers for the the blind
nuts. I sanded them to shape, but left them a little long until they are glued to
the hatch rails.

Pictured is the cutter used to make the shouldered holes for the socket cap
screws in the side of the fuse.

Obviously some don't know how long it takes to build a plane, let alone two at the same time. Not to mention doing a build thread, which is work in itself. Keep up the good work. I check this thread everday for new stuff.

First of all I was kidding with Kregan, which he knows. And second I happen to know a few things about the carden 300 since I built the prototype including a full build thread from start to finish.

Well...... today I built the frame for the first canopy.

First I had to make the rear frame piece. then it needs to be sanded
smaller all around so the canopy will be flush with the finished turtle deck.

The same thing needs to be done to the hatch rails. I used the mill to make
that cut. Once that was done I glueg the rails to the canopy mounting tabs.

I will be doing a semi open canopy floor so I built the cross bracing to mirror
the bracing under it.

Made sheet metal templates and cut the extra foam from the front deck and
glued the deck in place along with the front 1/4" balsa piece.

The frame is still fragile but it will gain strenght as the floor and other parts
are installed.

Sorry for the lack of movement on the planes....

I was planning to work on them the day after Xmas but I woke up
the next morning with a bad sore throat and feeling generally crappy.

Went the the Doctors today for a look and a culture, it won't be back
until 2008!!! He thinks it viral, so no antibiotics.

Our siding and roofing company sent use some 12 year old Johnnie Walker
Black Label Scotch along with 2 glasses for Christmas... Maybe that will make
it hurt less!!!

Kelly,
I haven't checked out your build thread for awhile. Finally got a chacne today to page through it. Excellent work, they look great.
The impressive thing to me is you're building 2 at once, the craftsmanship looks top notch and you're making great progress.
Good job. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to seeing the finsihed twins.

Ibow.... Those are some really kind words, thank you!

I finally felt good enough to go back into the shop!!!
I worked on the second canopy frame and it is drying.

The big brown truck showed up today with 5 boxes from
RC Showcase full of moving parts!

2 ZDZ Super 160's and all the fixins, props, a fuel can? Free
or Kurt called and add it to the order?

Welcome back to the land of the living. Glad you are feeling better. Saturday is suppose to be a good day for flying. The two planes should be ready by then.

I sheeted the front of the instrument panels, then I had to stop work
on the canopy/hatch until I could get the gas tank installed.

I built the tank trays from 1/8" aircraft ply and then did the lightening
trick. I used 1/2" x 3/8" hardwood mounting blocks epoxied to the
motor box and socket cap servo screws to hold the tank tray in place.

How many clamps can I fit in one spot!

I built a front cage for the tank to keep it from sliding forward. The
tank will get held down with straps.

Well I was able to get on with the fitting of the canopy floor
and front panel area.

That is about 6 hours worth of fitting, sanding, fitting, more sanding,
and on and on.

The middle control panel is just sitting in place, that will be glued
on next time.

Last night I stopped and did a major shop cleanup! The place was a real
mess!

I am working on the tank/hatch area on the second plane.

Once this one is done I think I will mount the motor and pipes and work
on getting the cowl in place.
