Default Runaway Traxxas Emaxx

Hey folks - I recently picked up a very neglected OG (I think?) E-maxx. I put a 2.4Ghz radio in it and cleaned it up a bit. The problem I have now is that the throttle will suddenly and unpredictably go haywire and accelerate to full speed to the point where the only way to stop it is by turning off the car. Does this sound like I need to replace the throttle or is something else going on? I would really appreciate some insight into this runaway car.

Have you tried calibrating the esc?

I have not, but will do so. I assumed it was calibrated by the previous owner, but I guess not?

Well, calibration is the easiest and cheapest thing to do!
Remember to remove the wheel from the car, prior to calibration, to avoid accidents.
Also, make sure that RX's antenna is away from the motor.

Here's an update: I tried recalibrating the esc without any change. I replaced the esc with a new one and all is good. Thanks for all the help!

Before making things really complicated and that you mention that you just purchased this unit, have you definitely checked the battery condition and crystals ?
