probably you are already in 3rd tight all the screws, and see the speed in 1st.
then loose the screwe of the outer clutch only till whae you're happy with the shifting.
you're in 2nd
only now start to play with the 3rd
take care that you don't shift to 3rd before you shift to 2nd otherwise you'll be stuck there.
ciao

Michael Emil,
A good way to get your third speed shifting is to lock down the second speed. Then soley adjust the third only. apx 8-8 1/2 turns out. Then you can start to loosen the second speed. Another way to tell if you are acheiving third speed is to feel the internal clutch bell with your finger after running. If it is warm then it has been engaging. Thanks for your question Michael.

If you set the third before the second ou will never shift to second or as soon as you hit second you'll shift to third.
The rpm of the shaft is what makes you shift from 2nd to 3rd...

Not if you set the third speed to shift late.

These are just some tips to help you out. You do not have to use them if you dont want.

Ok but 8 -8 1/2 is early due to the fact that the spring are not compressed.
He should screw them in so it won't be able to hit 3rd for sure, then work on the 2nd when he's happy with it start to unscrew the 3rd....
That is what I've done and my gearbox is now well tuned.

Here are the recommended settings.
2nd gear 5-5 1/2 out each screw
3rd gear 7 1/2-8 1/2 out each screw
The settings will be different according to how your engine is tuned. If your engine is running rich then your engine will not reach the neccessary rpm's to make your truck shift.
Engine Settings:
Top End: 3 1/2 turns out
Bottom End: 1/2 - 1 turn in from flush
again engine settings will differ in different climates, altitudes, and humidities. These are good starting points however.

LST GOD mine wouldnt shift into second either with the default factory settings that i was told to use, my second gear only started shifting when i turned both screws alittle more than half a turn out, then finally second gear started to hit within about 25 to 30 feet.
