Maybe because its not shifting!! Refer to instruction manual on how to adjust it. From memory loosen the adjustment screw on the pinion gear (make sure you get the right one as there are 2 screws) to allow it to shift sooner. If its running too rich it may also not shift into second.

Hold the truck up in the air and slowly roll the throttle on. Your waiting for the truck to !QUOT!kick!QUOT!. If you don't feel it kick try loosening the shift adjustment screw 1/8th turn and repeat until you feel the truck kick.
If you just cant feel it shift make sure the setscrew on the shift unit its self is correctly tightened down onto the flat spot. That is the larger set screw you will find when adjusting the shifter. Refer to the manual for more detail. Then gently tighten down the shift adjustment screw until it bottoms out the spring. Unscrew 5 1/2 turns out. That should get you pretty close to where you want to be.

your truck is not shifting if you don't hear it.. mine with the stock motor usually shifted into 2nd after about 80 to 100 feet provided the engine is tuned correctly... with the new os .18... it shifts into second in about 40 feet and flies.... turn adjs screw in very small increments until shift point is reached...
