I have a mt2. lately the engine's been running strange. It bogs down when I go from and idle, like it gets built up on fuel. I've tried leaning out the low speed mixture and it started to overheat. When the engine is cold it has compression but when it's warm it doesn't really. I know one of you will know just reading some of these posts. I was also wondering about the .18 conversion. All the parts numbers you give match the replacement part numbers.

The NT-18 piston and liner is a possiblity, or if you want to spend some extra cash on you could go for the O.S .18 CVR-X engine.
I'm not sure whether it's a straight drop in or not but, 'poor judgement' has a webpage on the evolution of his Fun Factor which has details of what he did with his O.S .18.

I don't really want to spend a lot of money I'll be getting a genesis in spring. I just need it to get me by. So it does sound like it needs rebuilt then. I can't find anything about the .18 upgrade other than on this forum, so I'm trying to figure out if it actually exists

Yes it actually does work and it will cost you around $50 by the time you are done... I did mine with some success but I was much happier when I spent $90 at tower hobbies for the os cvr18 ... much stronger than the cen...If you decide to upgrade to the 18 conversion with the cen parts you will need and piston and sleeve, new con rod and clips... make sure your head shims are good, or get new ones.. that's what caused me the most problems... leaked like crazy.. (no compression) until I replaced them... WHole deal took less than 20 minutes.. Just break engine in as original and good to go..

The info you are looking for is here:

I did the mod fairly recently and it is very easy and makes a noticeable difference. It cost $35 in parts from Tower, I think that was including shipping.

It sounds like it is time for a rebuild.
If you don't want to spend the cash do the .18 conversion it works and works well. Probably the cheapest and most noticable hop up there is.
If you do go with the OS all you will have to do is shorten one of the header bolts and then it will drop in.

Thank's everyone for your help. It's gonna be a little while before I can spend anymore money on it (girlfriend). I'll probably end up going with the os engine.

u wont be disappointed with the os18cvr-x, its a stormer of a little motor. u will however break drivetrain components more often unless u pay particular care to the diffs (shimming) and the diff cups (cup mod or restricted ride height to solve the prob).
all the answers are on this forum, any probs - just yell, and we will set u right mate.
good luck hiding it from the missus!
