First post on RCU... /wave

The Genesis Limited is absolutely gorgeous, craftsmanship looks like alot of design time went into this vehicle.

Although... I had a mishap that left a bad taste in my mouth in which I should have taken the precautions to slightly modify the setup before running the vehicle on the open road...

Take my word for it. "Install a throttle return spring on any nitro powered RC"

The Story, Okay I Started the .46 with absolutely no problem at all, and idled 4 tanks of 20% through it and in the mean time I was adjusting the failsafe for proper operation; testing it and what not. So the 5th tank I take it easy on the typical flat ground keeping the throttle in check running laps waiting the fuel to run out, and let off the throttle to coast it back to me to check the Head temperature, and bam! I lost all steering/throttle response but the Genesis was on idle and headed right towards me. After flipping the receiver switch a few times ( no red light on the failsafe) and checking the battery pack connection with no luck, I flipped the truck over and started to remove the 4cell battery holder and I hear the servos kick in and just like that I have power. So thinking that i didn't seat the batteries in correctly, I shoved the pack back in side and clipped it shut, by then everything had cooled down and I refilled for the 6th tank. Starting to get a little more speed the beast is smoking like a rich pig and about 5Min's into this tank, the same thing happens except this time its headed down the road at half throttle and ran in the foundation of a house on the corner of the street ( yes yes, the typical Cinder Block solid concrete foundation type home). Well, at that speed something was bound to give, and I didn't for one second think it was going to be the house.

Broken: Driver side front wheel hub, upper bulkhead brace, mangled the front chrome bumper and still no power to the electronics.

Well, I just got done eating dinner with the family and started tearing everything down to see the damage and make sure nothing else is cracked that wasn't visible. Then I get to this 3 dollar 4 cell cheapo battery holder and remove the batteries and notice the positive wire is crimped on by the rubber shielding and has a few strands of wire touching the metal contact where the positive nipple of an AA would go. Bingo found the problem, and now I'm kicking myself in the Arse cause I'm looking over at the outlet where I have a brand new 5 cell 6v hump pack charging. I guess I got "the" urge to bash and didn't want to wait for the pack to charge up.

Looks like it will cost about $45 or so to replace everything that was broke, Think this would be covered under the warranty by chance?

Anyways, boys and girls make sure you install a throttle return spring because failsafes dont work if they dont have power!

Good times.

thankyou for that, and i'm sorry to here it happened to you. i am going to check my batt connections tomorrow, this is not the first time that this has happened as i read in this forum but the other cases no one new the cause. and yes a throttle return spring would of returned the throttle to idle. i just installed one on mine yesterday since i had a spare from one of my savages. i was going to run mine tomorrow but i think that i will hit the hobby shop first and get the batt pack.

I had a similar thing happen with my MATRIX. It cost me 150 for a new motor. It went WOT acroos a field and flipped, by the time I got there it broke the connecting rod and piston OUUUCCHH.

RE: 6 hour old runaway Genesis, very upset
I picked up a good spring from Lowes and connected it to the end hole on the Throttle servo and to the center hole on the front shock mount. It returns the throttle all the way back and applies light pressure on the breaks when power goes out.

Sad part, is I knew better to run the nitro RC without that precaution. At the time I didn't think it was a big deal since everything was new including the batteries and running it in a very conservative manor.

My little super glue job didn't work to well on the Wheel Hub, it broke again right where the screw goes in from the bottom. Looks really thin where it mounts. I'm off to pick up some epoxy for a last quicky fix attempt till the replacement parts get here sometime this week.

I'll call Cen Monday, maybe I can get some backup parts sent just incase they break again.

Wanted to give everyone a heads up on this issue

CEN's warranty is covering all the damaged parts on the Genesis including the Lexan Body that was scratched/creased in the front.

This is the type of service we like to have supporting "us" customers.

Thanks again CEN

Kevin

btw, your actions have helped me decide on my next on-road RC, I'll be ordering the CT4-S in the near future.

That is awesome on cen's part.... honestly it was a user mistake kind of. All the trucks are listed as "RTR" but honestly they are not. You should make shure all screws are tight, all electrical connections tight, and the radio system is in good working order before a first run. The temptation is a killer though to just rip it out of the box and have fun.

Great job CEN!

Yes, I can see where it was my fault for not looking at the crimped connection inside the battery holder, but I can take a safe bet and say that "most" people do not. It could also be said that a quality control check for this part was not properly done by the manufacture.

too err is human....

When you pay almost $600 for an RC, one would expect it to be in perfect running condition and free of defects. ***** happens and I sure didnt think or expect CEN would replace the parts that broke because of this defect, but they did and that was worth mentioning here.

That's alot better luck than I had with CS. They just tried to sell me on some upgrade parts.
