Default Cen do something please....

Hello, I have posted elsewhere on this, but I have to say, this axle thing really bites. It seems to be a real sore spot with my Nemesis. I could understand if it were jumping, flipping, rolling, or hitting something, but to snap the dang thing on take off is a little much. I ran only 3 tanks to only have this happen once more. THREE TANKS, c'mon now, it was run on in a flat soccer field and a open parking lot (no curbs) and then on tank three I start it and take off then there goes my wheel, HELP, runaway wheel!!! Man it seems that CEN would have a better design for this and not made it hollow. Good idea and all for the set screw, but just bad execution, solid would probably been better here, I don't know.? I just can't see shelling out the $$ for this thing any more. Good luck future owners, unless something is done.

The hollow part of it i dont think is really at fault all by itself, Its a combination of having it hollow and having it drilled out to have the pin in the side. Thats the weakest spot of the hub. I actually drilled the hole in the axle deeper and then tapped out the axle to take a longer screw, i then took the pin and cut it in half (i cut it down alittle more than just 2 half pieces) because now the pin wouldnt be able to go through the axle all the way anymore then i just carefully assemble the hub with the two seperate pin pieces,

I never actually thought about this but it might be feasable to just tap the hole where the pin goes too and then just put in 2 set screws to act as pins.

I actually had one break on me like you did when i first got the truck i flipped it over at about half throttle on dirt/grass and the front right wheel flew off. I noticed the metal of the axle looked very pourous and figured it to be defective, so i did the above mentioned mod to the new axle i put in it, but the axle's come in a set of two so i had a spare and i didnt bother doing the other 3 unless another one was to break if it did then i would of replaced that one and modded all 4 axles, but ever since i havent had a problem.

( I actually did this mod to the broken axle while i was waiting for the parts to come in, i just put the two pieces back together and used the long screw to hold it together, it worked fine but eventually i would flip or something and the screw would bend where the axle was cracked, so i would just take it out and put a new screw in and continue on until i finally got the replacements)

If you don't get an answer from CEN here you may want to check this site out http://www.cenfactoryteam.com/
There is a lot of CEN techs and racers you can ask and they do answer fast.

Yes, you have stated this earlier and thank you, but it doesn't apply to me or others who are in my shoes. No hobby shop around me carries CEN or there products so I do all my transactions online. With that said you can guess on where I got my Nemesis, yup, ebay, so I don't have any proof of purchase to get or have warranty work done for me. So with that said I hope all can understand the importance of buying only from a LHS or online HS. Thanks again though, I just wish I could do this.

Hi guys. If you do break an axle while it is under warranty please don't hesitate to send it to the warranty/repair department at CEN Racing for a replacement.

Also, please make sure that you are not overtightening the set screw pin. Also check the factory settings on this pin as some customers have relayed that these pins are too tight.

So CEN you will not make any option part for us????
I know I haven't overtightened the screw and I still break my GS028, not a lot but it happens. When i'm out bashing my gen the only replacement part I have with me is GS028 because I know it will break. When I drive my gen I only do small jumps and I will not bash it hard because i know it will break, It's very sad because other then that the truck is awesome.
So please make us a heavy duty wheel axle so we can bash all day long
I'm glad that you are here and replay on our questions, and I'm only reporting this so the truck will be better and you will get a lot of happy customer.

Thanks
Jadda!!!

yep same boat still no paddle! I have a little cup with all my broke stub axles. The nearest hobby shops that just started carrying CEN truck only carry the Stub axle for parts, no others. Few more brake and I'll be putting the Nemesis on the good old ebay. Its' not bad to have to buy one a few months put to have to replace one every week or so. I think that the wheel hexs should go through the wheel absorb the impact.bearings, this would take all the load of of the axles and let the springs. What the warrenty 30-60 days. Didn't know they would warrnety the axles now truck is a month or so out of warrenty

Hello,
We have heard your thoughts on a better axle and we are working on a revised axle that should be ready in a few months. Please bear with us while we are testing some new metals and new ways to hold the stub axle on.

Thank you.

CEN - cant u just change the grade of steel that is used?

i posted the hardness of the grades u currently use - its simply too brittle for the diameter for the forces that the stub shafts are subject too.

has anyone tried heat treating the shafts? or are they already heat treated? Heat treating gives the metal enough energy for the grains to rearrange and gives the metal greater ductility. Should only take about 700 degrees for about 10 mins.

And there's got to be some way to Fill in the hollow part too. I don't have an axle to look at so I can't think of how.
I want to get a nemesis but I want to wait til the problems are sorted out.

Thank you CEN, I will anxiously await your replacement for this problem. Until then I guess I will give paedbo's method a try, he swears by it and it seems it's pretty simple to do as well as cheap.

Hey Guys, I decided to do a similar mod to my axles which you can read the details at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_38...mpage_8/tm.htm
The reason I'm posting this is for another idea I had while the parts were in my hands. I'm not real fond of the small e-clips that hold the drive pin into the CVD itself so I came up with this simple insurance policy. Get some 3/4 heat shring tubing and install it around the end of the shaft.

Enjoy!

Sorry guys/gals, I have checked and rechecked into all this and the cost is not there to say the least. Thank you for all that were behind me and again I apologize for not being able to resolve this for us. Maybe CEN will have something soon so that the problem will be taken care of for alot less. Unless of course they read this and decide the demand is there and gouge us for more money. I hope not, but it could happen.

Here guys heres a pic of my fixed axle which remember was broken in half where the pin goes in, Now remember like i said the screw would bend on me occassionally and i would have to replace it, but this was on a broken axle not a solid one! On a solid axle it helps strengthen it.

The axle issue has been addressed. We have a new axle and it is already in the packages and ready to be sent out to the local hobby shops that order axles. There is no new part number or anything like that. For a single axle and new set screw the part number is GS245 and for a pair of axles with all hardware, pins, e-clips, etc the part number is GS028. They have been beefed up and the way you can tell if they are stock or not is by the size of the wheel pin screw.

So far in testing from our factory team, we have not have one broken by a team driver yet.
