What are the advantages and disadvantages of locking the front differential?
How easy is this to do?
What would i need and how do you do it, IF i decide to?
Is it recommended if i'm basically just a basher?
Thanks in advance guys!!!

you could put diff fluid instead of using the grease. i only know of locking the center diff for more all wheel power or putting diff fluid in the center and all the diff so it doesnt slip as much. locking the front will give you posi traction in the front for more pulling and less steering, not a very good combo. go to the cen web site and see what they recomend for silicone fluid in the diff, their recomendations are very good.

It will unleash the beast within!
Want wheelies? Lock it up. The diff fluid front and rear makes a decent difference, its not till you get rid of that grease and get some good diff fluid that you'll get the most out of the truck, I was VERY surprised with the difference, truck was noticably quicker, seemed easier to get the power to the ground, before I think it was all ending up driving thru one wheel quite often as the diffs unload.

I put Traxxas 10K diff fluid in both front and rear diffs (this isn't ideal - you probably want thicker in the front, thinner in the rear - especially if you are gonna race - 10K was all I had at the time) just buy some from your LHS. Its not exactly easy to put in, remove rear end from chassis, strip apart to extract diff - heat diff screws up to break locktite and open up, same for front. To lock the center you need to remove front and rear, engine, 2 speed, one side of chassis and extract transmission assembly, heat up diff screws again and remove gears and fit lock block.
Locking the center diff will cause more wear and tear on your drivetrain... but its a lot more fun! [>:]

What is the desired weight for the front and then for the rear. Front thicker correct.
I'm not going to be racing, just bashing, so should i still do this?
If locking the center diff causes unnecessary wear i'm not going to do it

Locking the centre WILL wear the drivetrain quicker, I'd say lock it - you can always put the diff internals back in if its costing you too much.

Pros of locking the front diff is that you will get better traction out of the turns and off the line
cons are that the turning circle is drastically increased as both the front wheels are driving making it understeer
Cen make a centre diff locker which should fit your front diff. Or you can just use a heavy oil so that it still slips and your turning isn't comprimised.
the diff lockers are very hard on the axles so if you put one in don't run your truck on a paved surface. off-road only
