I have about 10 tanks thru the engine now and I go to do some tuning. The HSN has to be at 4 3/4 out to keep the temp around 230. This is way richer than the specs call for. I am taking the temps after a good run and aiming the infra red down onto the head. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal to be so rich compared to the specs. Does only having one head gasket raise the temp this much? I am using 30% nitro with 20% oil for the first gallon. I would think the extra oil would help cool the engine. Any Suggestions?

Hey bubba, 230 is not hot really.. but the first thing I would start looking for is an air leak. Check the exhaust gasket to see if it is torn or just not seated properly.. Then be sure the carb is seated well, square and tight..Check the head be sure it is tight.. And yes you should be using a second gasket on the head, especially when running 30% nitro.. 20% needs two gaskets and 30% needs 3 if your temps are 230 thats not bad but I'm sure your fuel consumption is high!!

30% w 20% oil is alot, try 30 with 12% it should be a little better and not alot of oil comming out of the exaust. also pick up some os cold plugs i think r5 and it will help keep it cool.
