Default SOME DIFFF ISSUES IN MY BCE ARENA

Hey all,
I am posting this in a couple of forums as I know there are VERY knowledgable people in a few different forums that can maybe help me... THANKS IN ADVANCE
All...
OK, some new and additional diff questions... Sorry if these are redundant but I want to get this right!
1. Are there 2 different sizes/versions of PLASTIC diff cups from CEN? I have a myriad of spare parts and maybe a dozen plastic diff cases. I could be crazy but it seems like there may be 2 different sizes or generations of plastic diff cases from CEN?
2. I am using cross pins. The diff that I just took apart had the little washers on the outside of all 4 smaller vertical gears in the diff. I was under the impression that if I used plastic diff cases I DID NOT need the shims in the outside of the cross pins. I put the diff back together w/out the shims and the action was VERY geary. Not smooth. Didnt feel right. I put it back together with the shims and it was much smoother.
3. I just replaced the Kyosho STRR pinion and main diff gear in my Arena last night as well. I DID NOT shim these gears as I cant get a proper smooth diff feeling with any combination of shims either on the pinion or the main outer diff housing? SO, is anyone else using the kyosho diff gear settup? Can you offer me any advice? I ran about 1.5 gallons through my arena after the BCE build. At first the diffs were amazing. Then they ate themselves at about the 1.5 gallon mark... I am really confused... $30 bucks worth of gears every 1.5 gallons is not a game I want to play...
