New Genesis problems

Hi guys recently bought a CEN Genesis 46 here in the UK after a 2 week wait. Unpacked it all to find the roof of the bodyshell badly scuffed by the packaging and rough handling by the postage company i presume. The shop i got it from have sent photos of the damage to the distributors hopefully something can be worked out.

After running it in by the book 7 tankfulls at idle ( 3.5 hours )i then took it out on its maiden voyage, I was disappointed to say the least the brakes don't work at all and only the front wheels are being driven. To finish off with i tried to go up a 3 - 4 inch kerb slowly and the o/s/f top wishbone snaps in half. The wishbone seems to have fractured as its under strain/twisted as its a very tight fit onto the metal adjuster.

Back to the shop tomorrow, guess it'll be off the road for a few weeks now as the UK distributors don't seem to be very helpfull when i ordered it they said they had stock and that it would arrive next day, it turned up 2 weeks later as i was just about to cancel and get a HPI or Traxxas.

They can't be that bad can they? Does anyone know of any spare parts suppliers for the Genesis in the UK? Seem to be a bit thin on the ground. I don't mind it breaking so much if the parts are available and reasonably priced. I've also got a G.V tomahawk (don't laugh) it falls apart regularly but hey thats half the fun and at least i can get spares easily:)

Pull starts are £25. From what I have been told moast other makes of buggies are about £15.
Parts are a joke at the moment. If you contact uk customer support they will not sell parts direct, only tell you to go to a local supplier then not be able to name any.
Took 3 weeks to get a pull start for mine.
3 speed gearbox is another joke, see how many people have theirs working.
Watched two friends trying to race theirs at the weekend. Trying was about it. Dont think they lasted a tank of nitro between repairs and bits coming loose.

They can't be that bad can they?
the last post i saw them make was one recommending a weight of silicone diff fluid to a guy with a cen mt2. i hope its thick enough not to come splurging out of the 3 holes in the non sealable diff.... i just dont understand cen at all, theyre bonkers!!

i have got more information and help from other companies regarding cens own products, and none of those companies had anything good to say about cen, quite the reverse im afraid. the only person i have heard say anything good about cen is my lhs owner, who stocks their cars but very few spares, and they are expensive. havin said that i got my gx-1 2 speed from him for £25 cos he couldnt sell them - brucy bonus!! anyone in the uk wants one i will see if any are left at that price. apart from that hes been very unhelpful and very wrong too.

dont lose all hope tho mate, lots of people on here and the wildhobbies forum and hpi europe forum will help u with most stuff. a few seem to be gettin on ok with their genesis' (genesii?) now the probs have come to light and owners have sorted them. ask the more experienced genesis owners they are the best bet, noobs just ***** about it breaking.

ebay has seen a load of genesis parts arrive recently, check it out.

good luck!!

RE: New Genesis problems

Yeah, I asked a question about my receiver on here and the CEN rep posted that I need to contact their customer service. Why didn't he just tell me what was wrong on here?? Why don't they have techs answering thread question on here instead of sales rep or whatever the hell they are??? That is what gets me. My LHS sold me my MT2 on the promise that it was really durable and "one of the best out there". They stock almost all the parts, but still, they charge me $$$ for them. The hobby store in the next town told me they were screwing me and to come to him when I needed parts and he would hook me up.

My next car will be a LST or a Savage, maybe a Revo, not sure. Surely not a Genesis.

RE: New Genesis problems

Well my rear diff problem was a grub screw missing:D that seems to have sorted the brakes aswell. Glued the front wishbone together and shes up and running:) went out for a quick play then the steering servo had a fit.It went to full lefthand lock and won't budge[>:] i swaped servos around on the receiver and they work fine looks like my steering servo has died now[:o]

Anyone got the phone number for Cen support in the UK please?

Has anyone in the UK got problems with drive spurs ?

Well, I don't know if it can help but CEN in italy is represented by SCORPIO s.r.l.
They have a nice website, I can order and pay by C.C. and if I order within noon I get the parts the morning after.
Minimum order 50€ includin 5€ shipping. It's a real great service (with the genesis you need it...[:o]) you can try to ask them if they can ship it to G.B.
They reply to my mail within hours.
try.

www.scorpio.it click on the genesis picture, either scroll down and click on "tutti i ricambi" or on top in the box "cerca" digit the # code of what you need and check if it there (they have 90% of the spare parts, the prices are more or less the one you can buy in USA but for me the service is great!

Good Luck

Ciao

im from australia and have had a genesis for a week or so, when it has worked it has been great not that all the problems are CEN's fault first had a collision with a tree and snaped left front main controll arm joint not a biggy, got my new parts day after i ordered them small thigs have gone wrong rear main exhaust to engine seal blew out after only 2 tanks of fuel and main exhaust joiner split in 2 after another 3 tanks the local hobby shop where i got the car has been great and replaced all the parts free strait away. it just seems to me that CEN have made this kick ass Nitro Truck and cut coners in a few spots to save some money and make it a little cheaper to sell
like the bigest issue i have had is the pull start it is a load of rubbish i have spent more time in the last week fixing that then playing and what would it take to put a rotar start on from factory and just charge a little more im sure they would still sell them !!
anyways i have ordered my AM rotor start and hope it will make life alot easyier, apart from that CEN have done a great job and man it is a beast now i have it run in god daMM i had full powerslide on loose dirt for 20m or so "very impressed" in prosses of getting together so vid clips to post so all those in doubt can see what this baby can do. last of all for those that have not owned RC's before they can be a pain in the ass the genesis is no exception !

all the best and try to take the best of the good times and try not to dwell on the bad RC is a lot of work.

Took my servo back to lhs for testing and it started smoking :) got a new one 3 days later. Put back together went out for a bash and lost four wheel drive again:( grub screw came out again even with loctite on it. Like powerslave says when they go boy do they but i think CEN quality control needs looking into. I've just got a FG monster truck:D its not much bigger than the Genesis, if the Genesis gives me much more trouble it will be going on Ebay.

I'd take it out of the box and check every nut, bolt and screw then run it in and check the radio gear. You need to find any problems before the warranty runs out. Apart from that they are very good when they do go and turn lots of heads:D

I have a 3 batch genesis, and it's running great, the only problem I have is the radio gear so I switched it to Futaba 3Pm and the steering servo to one that's faster and have more power.
I love my Genesis it's so much power.
The break in is a pain

Have you changed to rota start or is it still pull guys which is the best rota start if your converting

BILKO1 10-25-2004 01:36 PM

RE: New Genesis problems

Mines still pull start, gets easier once its run in. I was thinking about a roto start but that introduces more possible problems. Managed to run 2.5 tanks of fuel this evening without a hitch things are looking up:) shame one of my marder steering servos packed up[:o]

RE: New Genesis problems

what problems can be caused from a rotor start ?? i have just converted and love it at this stage is there any rules to follow with a rotor start i make sure i dont give it any more then i would with a pull start short bursts till i can hear it going to kick over and then one a bit longer and tis all good i love it myself but would be interested in any comments on this topic !! also i have a 3rd batch gen and works good apart from a few minor things i love it so far !!

hey thanks for that

i was wondering i have now broken in my engine, I have set the recmended gear ratios and still have trouble hitting third anyone can help with there settings ??

MrMijago 10-28-2004 10:26 AM

RE: New Genesis problems

@Powerslave:
your engine should not be set to rich. With rich settings you have no chance to hit the 3rd gear. Lean it out or turn the screws of the 3rd gear out. My screws are 8 1/2 turn´s out.
Factory settings are 7 1/2 turns out.
