Fun Factor gearing
Had the ST2 out this weekend, after approx 25 minutes of run time, the truck came to a halt. Both first and second gear had damage to a quarter of the gear… it had melted. I'm pretty sure the engine wasn't overheating, though I didn't take any readings!!!
I was running the truck on some loose gravel, could a stone of caught up in the gear causing it to snap and melt to the clutch bell? Or have I got it set up wrong - have changed both gears now and runs fine off the floor! Also, where could I get both gears made from Steel or Ali - from a company that'll ship to the UK as I can't seem to find them? Cheers |
RE: Fun Factor gearing
The stock gears strip EASY. You really need to make sure you have them meshed just right.
CEN makes steel gears, but the problem is the only steel pinions they make are a 14t/17t combo, so your gearing will be taller. And if you use steel spurs with the stock alum pinions... bye bye pinions. http://www.customrccars.com/product_...at=22&custom=0 http://www.customrccars.com/product_...at=22&custom=0 http://www.customrccars.com/product_...at=22&custom=0 |
RE: Fun Factor gearing
Thanks for the input. I've emailed them with regards to shipping costs as it looks like it'll end up being half the price in $'s than in £'s ($61.00 or £62.00, which is approx $124.00) - Yeah I know...
Question though, I've replaced the clutch bell when replacing the gears, the model number is G84307-04 - it doesn't quote that it's made from steel but it looks exactly the same but with T15-T18 instead of the 15-18 combo. Would I still need to buy your option? Cheers |

RE: Fun Factor gearing
I live in West London.
I can easily get spares for the truck, www.hobbystores.co.uk have almost the full replacement parts in stock and are a very good supplier, but any form of upgrade or hop up is impossible to get from the uk. Both gears are red and have been replaced at least 5 times each, the steel ones from custom rc cars are actually less than half the uk price with delivery if I could get 'em ($60.00 delivered) so I'll be getting two sets. I've tried almost all of the london based dealers Ripmax offer but they're way too expensive. Cheers for the input, whilst I'm on it, what else would you recommend getting as un upgrade??? My ST2 is almost fully stock apart from the O.S 18 engine and tuned pipe, somewhere along the lines of New shock etc... |

Don't atually have any tracks remotely close to where I live.
Luckily there's a huge place around the corner called Wormwood Scrubs, this is where I mainly go. |
