I've been away fro a while and now I noticed people talking about the CPA, or Classic Pattern Association.
I understand the BPA was needed for those who fell between the SPA and the current F3A catagories.
I haven't understood why CPA was started or how. Is it a group taking over the BPA and the SPA under one name? Or is it another web based forum like RCU and RCG.
I jumped on the site and it kind of looks that way.
just curious

DM,
Here is the short version of the history... After SPA banned electric in competition there was alot of upset people and Mickey W. and I talked and he gave me some ideas, which I took and stated a forum site for all of the Classic pattern organization to be under one roof and be able share ideas without having to have a bunch of websites.. I also talked to Gary Courtney (Founder of BPA) and we talked and did not want to step on his toes and told him of my idea and we agreed to put the BPA and CPA together.. Gary will call his contest in Huntsville BPA.. Classic Pattern Association is the new name and includes the BPA. Gary is CPA#1 as the founder of the original group. The biggest difference CPA and SPA have are the rules and mostly in SPA you have to be a member to fly in any class above novice.. In CPA you do not have to be a member at all and your still welcome to come out and try classic patterns as they where right from the original rule books from that era. The paid members are supporting the website of CPA only not the sister site (forum) and it is against RCU policy to post the URL here.. However if you email me at [email protected] I can get you that information. The paid members also get to have a say and vote on issue in the organization, like the most recent was the CPA logo. As Gary stated when we talked for hours with others on conference calls working out the details CPA/BPA is in the infant stage and yes as a member of SPA I have seen, heard alot and used some of there positives and negatives as a learning tool for the CPA.
CPA has about 40 members on the free mail list, this list was donated to us and is like the one for NSRCA... great way to pass info and share idea's etc. with your fellow classic pattern pilots..
We Have 20 or so paid CPA members and 180 or so members on the forum site.
The rules are easy come out and have fun !!!!
72 ish wing span
max 120 4-stroke
2 strokes welcome
electrics welcome and will fly head to head with IC engines, not in a separate class like SPA.
Pipes / Retracts welcome
HAVE FUN !!!!
That is the short version and I enjoy doing the forum site along with the CPA site etc.
We are looking for some help with a newsletter and already have one person who has stepped up to do that but he would like some more people also. I'm looking for some help with the membership side, getting the cards out to new members etc. also we have 2 great guys that worked on the logo and the clothing items for CPA which will be out soon
We are also looking for more site and CD's..... How about TX,KY,Oh,VA,MD,NC,SC also on the left coast ? CA ?
Also did I mention CPA= FUN !
