A photo of the Mach one I built and flew in the 70's and a photo of the on under const. now it will have O.S. 61 FX and E Flite retracts JR 9530 radio it is scratch built from Model air plane News mag Plans and using Eureka wing an stab cores started sheeting today. The original was a little heavy but flew great ( was a midwest kit, and the paint was done withlacquer metal flake and K& B super Poxy clear) Yeah I know what did I expect with the weight ? but myself and a friend were playing with auto inspired custom paints

What engine, retracts and radio did you have in the old Mach 1?
I had a Mach 1 also in 1970th - Rossi 60 FI RC ABC, Goldberg retracts, EK logictrol super pro 7 ch. Painted in 2-component polyurethane paint (model came out little heavy).

Both are impressive works....
I also had a Mach 1 in the seventies.... Kraft .61, ProLine radio, retracts (don't remember the brand), K&B SuperPoxy paint.. Mine was also a "bit" heavy.

Love the pictures of Mach 1's. I stole this from a thread on RCU a while back. The original paint scheme shows the lines of this design so well.

I will try to answer some of the questions, one of the guys sent me a pm and I will cover that also. The old one was powered by a Super Tigre 60 Blue head with an MACS muffler, the retracts were I belive robarts, Its hard to belive I could getall that in it !!I had others but they were my favorites. The radio was Kraft. The problem with weight was that it was a Midwest kit I don't belive I've ever seen any of their wood that's not heavy and hard, the paint I knew was going to be a problem but just wanted to do it ( at least back then the metal in metal flake Was Metal)
I know it was dumbbut it was pretty, and amazingly the plane flew quite well there was'nt a lot of emphasis on vertical manuvers back then but itwould reallypenetrat the wind. The new one is being built out of all 4 to 7 lb. wood, other than where I need some thing a little harder.all blocks are hollowed to an 1/8" The fuse as you see it weighs 0.82 lbs. the vertical fin dorsal strake and rudder weigh 0.07lbs(1.10 oz.) I got the stab and wing cores sheeted last night and cleaned up, and cut up the L/Es and T/Es. its been so long since I built a R/C ship i really don't have a feel for where the weights really should be, My son and I have been flying freeflight and controlline the past 15 or so years I had'nt flown R/C in probably 22 or so years and just got back this year, building a 1/4 scale Pitts 12 my son designed this last fall too.
Dave ( I will try to post some photos as I go along )

I have for years used either dope or automotive paints but the last several years I have developed some problems with my breathing, and am try ing to learn to use the iron products. I will attach the scheme I plan to use on the mach one and a Extra I did this summer and am flying now.
