Tower deal
Tower has $15 off and a free shipping deal through the 31st. Was able to pick up a $125 Great Planes Ultra Sport 60 kit for $110 and free shipping. Don’t plan to build it as an Ultra Sport but will use the wing and stabs and modify the fuselage to my liking. Nice thing about kits is you can build them to your own standards!

It is actually a modified Tower Kaos. The Tower Kaos doesn’t have the very fat Kaos wing.

It is funny to say this, but the US has some good potential!!!

The Ultra Sport, being an evolutionary design following the Kaos, was originally called the "Turmoil", hinting at its heritage.

I took the deal on the Phoenix Models Jupiter. USPS International Priority ..... I thought it would ship Illinois->Minneapolis->Pembina, ND->Winnipeg (16 hours driving). Not even close. It went Illinois->New York->Montreal, Quebec->Winnipeg. It was 15 hours to go from Illnois to New York for international tracking. Still came within a 1.5 weeks from ordering.

RE: Tower deal
The kit arrived today. I haven’t looked at all the wood in the kit but so far it looks good and straight. I believe it will be very easy to get rid of the canopy and the area behind it and create a classic shaped fuselage and canopy. With minor changes it could easily become a Kaos, taper wing Kwik Fli III or whatever!!
The wing root is probably ok at 17.93% and about ¾ of the way out on the wing 16.86%. I’ll need to find the tip template to calculate the tip percentage. Might be around 16.5 or so. The box cover shows an ugly four stroke that is a huge turn off and plans have the mods needed to install one.
Overall I think it is a great bargin and the most awesome part of all it has MADE IN THE USA printed on the box.

I think Tower is missing a huge sales opportunity by not publicizing their made in the USA products on their website. I sent them a number emails about the idea but it did not compute! I think they could do more sales if there was a large made in the USA logo on every product page.

I'm surprised that anyone is making kits in the USA any longer. After all the hoopla about how much less it is to manufacture kits offshore...
I'm convinced that a 1.20 sized Great Planes Trainer kit or ARF (Bridi/GP symmetrical airfoil version) would sell very well. What a sweet flying model that would be, and it would look sufficiently different from their Giant Big Stik that it would draw the folks that intensely dislike the Stik looks and trademark covering scheme.

Perhaps after this summer's FAA NPRM on the limitations to be expected for model airlane ops, the kit makers and distributors will know what to market.

The Kaos wing was a bit thick, but are you sure that you are not thinking of the vastly thicker Contender (60) wing? My Tower Kaos ARFs have wings that appear to be proportionally just as thick as the Super Kaos wing, which was as thick as the Kaos (60) wing. The Contender wing was over 20% thickness.

The last time I ordered. I don't believe that Tower Hobbies is lacking for sales.

RE: Tower deal
I am building a Tower Kaos right now and scored a NIB Ultrasport 60 kit from a swap meet for $40. The wings are exactly the same. Same parts and building order other than the retracts.
