For a long time I was having some serious posting issues here. They were so bad I considered moving my build threads somewhere else. It was VERY FRUSTRATING! Some weekends I would try for an entire day before the photos would actually post. Sometimes they wouldn't post at all! []

But I have to say, the last couple of months things are a LOT better than they have been, at least for me. I just figured they were finally getting a handle on the problems. Apparently not though!

I thought RCU was now a government run website. []

Chinese government maybe! I read somewhere that this site is now on Chinese servers. Not sure if that's actually true, but it sure would explain a lot!

This site has had its difficulties, but it amazes me how well put together www.classicpatternforum.com is these days. I know this site has a great history, and www.classicpatternforum really is easy to post a LOT of pictures.

This site is great and all, and it amazes me how knowledgable the people are at www.classicpatternforum.com .

Classic pattern forum dot com is okay, if you like getting your pics posted and seen easily. Simplicity at www.classicpatternforum.com makes engaging the subject stress free. If you're into that sort of thing anyway.

Did I mention you can find www.classicpatternforum.com at: www.classicpatternforum.com ?

As a user that has created a few build threads that attract other users to RCU, it is extremely frustrating for me when the site doesn’t work reliably. I don’t understand the management of the site. I wanted to start a new thread three days ago with images and the image upload is still not working, so I guess I’ll not be doing that.

Guys, I would suggest you start a free photobucket account and upload your images there. Then to post to any and all of the sites you'd like to use, you simply copy the image code and the image appears on your chosen site, but is actually hosted at photobucket. All the pictures in my Knoxville thread were posted that way, and it's easy and hassle free. I am in no way affiliated with photobucket. No more RCU site errors.

Then your photobucket account will show us all white squares with "Your photobucket account is too popular, upgrade now".

I'd go to RCGroups, Classic pattern.

Tried to post an ad yesterday, after an hour no joy, some kind of internal server fault, so I clicked on a support link in the message, then kinda vented in the email. It actually went to a help desk support person who responded back. He was nice enough, but I had to kindly explain to him that a 'solution' to RCU problems was not something that was going to be implemented from the help desk.

It is a free site. We don't pay to post here, that might be part of the problem, budget.<div>They too have to make a profit</div>

For those of us that have spent hundreds of hours creating RCU build threads that attract users to RCU it really isn’t free. If RCU wants us to help them build this site they need to make it reliable. The hassle is just not worth it.

Did some poking around tonight and it looks like the "Chinese servers" is just a rumor. This sight is hosted by GoDaddy: [link=http://www.pagesinventory.com/domain/www.rcuniverse.com.html]http://www.pagesinventory.com/domain/www.rcuniverse.com.html[/link]. I've used GoDaddy quite a bit and their servers are usually pretty good, so the problems with this site must be internal/software/incompetence and probably not the fault of the hardware.

All of the moderators have reported problems in a special area set aside for RCU problems. I've noted several as have other mods. All I can say is that they tell us they are working on it. I, too, don't know why it takes so long. I won't comment at all on the quality of those working on the problem because I don't know them nor care to make a negative comment.

There are days when all is well and then there are days when nothing seems to work right.

Suffice to say that we are all patiently waiting for the site to start working as it is supposed to.

Maybe it's time for RCU IT to take a road trip down to Corvallis, OR. The sysadmins I've met there are the best I've seen. I believe the founders of RCG are from out there.

I agree with Ralph, the main issue seems to be database related. Last year it was bandwidth and routing. It seems (at least to me) that the former problems have been fixed.

Migrating this site to new software and interfacing is a major undertaking. They tried it a couple of years ago and it was a major disaster on all fronts.

Well, so much for being better. This weekend I've gotten the dreaded "500 Internal Server Error" message several times while trying to post photos! It can't be that difficult to fix this site! Especially considering how much time they've had to get it done. []

FIX THE DAMN SITE ALREADY!
