Which of mac's pipes would most closely represent what was used in the 1970's ?
Quiet Tuned Pipes-Quiet Tuned Pipes or Pattern Pipes are for smooth RPM increase
and smooth transition on and off the pipe
Tuned Pipes-Un-muffled Tuned Pipes or Racing Pipes are for RPMs and speed
Muffled Tuned Pipes-Muffled Tuned Pipes or Fun-fly Pipes are for general field flying
Is one better than the others?

What for?
The Macs descriptions pretty much say it all. QP's are pattern pipes - quiet and smooth in response. MP's are a little shorter and lighter (sometimes) but a tad louder too though similar in smoothness to the QP's. TP's, otherwise sometimes referred to as Nitro Pipes, are intended for racing. They are un-muffled and intended for all out performance with C/L venturis. So:
racing: TP
sport: MP
pattern: QP

Macs muffled tuned pipes were the most popular back in the 70s. They made all kinds of engine headers along with tuned pipes. They had several different shapes and offsets for nearly every engine available at the time. Just some of my ancient hobby industry knowledge.
