I have just bought a lot of RC equipment that contained 6 airplanes. They appear to have been hanging in a garage for 15+ years and in it is a pattern ship called a Super Lucky Fly II. Does anyone know who makes it? Thanks

It is easily that old. Was kitted by Johnny Casburn and I think at Warehouse Hobbies in Fort Worth..
Had one for my first low winger. Flew fine. Don't know what I did with it. What's the first thing to go?

That Lucky Fly was really a great airplane! I wish someone would make them again.

hate to revive a necro'd thread but I happened to have purchased a super lucky fly 2 from a lhs in moore ok and I want to replace the engine in it. whoever built it built around the motor mount like a psuedo cowl and I am wanting to modify it by cutting the excess cowl-like part off and put a newer ringed .65 in it to replace the ABC thats in there now. The problem is I cant find any reference to plans for this so i can find the CG for it once I refit it. I do hope this is the right place to ask for help for that. Any assistance would be appreciated. thank you.

Assuming the current CG is set correctly, you could simply measure it prior to the surgery, and just set it at the same point after modifications.

I found an article that states where the CG is guessed to be 1 7/8" to 2" back from the leading edge at the tip, thats for futurereferencefor anyone else that might be looking for the info. The next question I have would be, is it going to be completesacrilegechoppinginto this thing to refit it? I know the front end and wing isnt original anymore anyways, so Im curious as to if Im doingsomethingthat would be frowned upon given the regards people seem to hold this plane in.

I've got the Little Super Lucky Fly II. It's my oldest power plane, built in 1982. Actually it is an ARC, not a kit, and mine has the typical carved balsa block under the engine, and around the sides. Just the top of the engine was uncovered, but it was enough open space to drop the engine in. It's a really sweet flying plane so I would do the surgery needed to make your engine change, and then go fly and enjoy it. Maybe you can be as neat as possible removing the cowl area so that you can reinstall it and refinish around the new engine? Jon

Ive removed the old engine but the motor mount is stuck firm to the frame. Im scared to get to rough with it so i dont know what ill do. if I can, im going to fit the new engine then rebuild up around it and recover the fusalage at least. Im eager to get her in the air and see how she does. while i work on that, im also going to see about getting the engine that came with it running, i think its an old idscontinued .40 from mvvs, so that will be a new experiance as well.

A little heat might loosen the mount if it was stuck on with epoxy. Just a thought.

This thread needs pics! Here are a few of my Little Super Lucky Fly. I took these just minutes ago after hanging the plane up for display. For the last five years it was on my storage racks on the walls, wings in one place, fuse in another. I need space so I hung this faithful old bird up. Now my sons and I can admire it...the plane maidened in May 82 and is older than my 2nd son. If it looks a little different, it is! I only had a used K&B 40 for it and was scraping by in those days, so I shortened the fuse and the wingspan a few inches to make the plane smaller for the engine, lol. It worked though, and the plane flew great in Denver where the air is thin. I added a subfin and enlarged and reshaped the rudder for more control and less coupling in KE...I don't recall if it worked, haha, but it must've been ok since I flew it that way for years. I had to add that crazy onion muffler later for noise restrictions at another club field in another State. Oh, that is a Royal 40 in it, which replaced the K&B 40 that just got worn out.

I'd luv that lil bird, any chance of dropping it over to Hertfordshire in the UK - ofcourse - for a quick test fly ?
I'd let you have it back - collection times could vary but anything after 2020 would be fine
