Default What's on the drawing board?

My favorite forum is a bit slow lately so I though I'd ask what new classic project everone's either got going on or would like to build if they could. When you answer, also state what classic engine you would like to power it with. I just started a Phoenix I from RCM plans for my "new" pre-'72 HP 61. Enough worrying about the swept wings. After reading Don's article that comes with the plans, I'm going for it! Wing ribs are done, with gear mount doublers next. How 'bout everyone else? Let's hear what you've been really aching to build! .........Mark

I am going to build a Sweetator. The kit is incomplete, but the only real hurdle will be the canopy. Any Ideas? I guess I can always carve one. I plan on using a ST G- 60 Bluehead.

On the shelf for future include a Kaos, Dirty Birdy, Mach One and a Deception. I also just got the plans for a Gator Flea from MAN. I hope the RCM plans aren't going to be lost. There are a few more that I had always hoped to get around to... someday.

Restoring: Bootlegger with a Rossi 60RE, T2A MK2 with YS 60RE or Webra 61 RE (don't know yet on the engine)

Building: Another Tiporare with a YS60SE and if time permits.... Bootlegger #2 with a YS60RE

Interestingly---I'm also thinking hard about a Phoenix 1. I'll probably try to get a foam wing cut, and get away fom the strip ailerons. Watch that 1/16" sheeting!!

Other projects, and "someday" projects:

1) I have two King Altairs nearing completion--my goal is to fly them this year. OS .91/Saito 100
2) A 95% completed Dirty Birdy I've had stored away. Will TRY an OS.91FS

Possible:
---Purchase a mostly finished Daddy Rabbit OS .91 FS
---Plans for a Dart III (RCM) " " "
---Plans for a Mr Slick (RCM) " " "
---Repair a VK Cherokee OS .60
---Modified Taurus from Jeff Petroski kit (either swept or taper wing)--I have documentation both were flown in the mid '60s. OS.50

Lots of projects

Started on a Tom Brett Perigee back in January, then got sidelined by the DeBolt Interceptor. Which interupted a Scorcerer. All of which powered by a venerable O.S. 40 glow engine, w/o modfications.

Am back onto the Perigee once again but don't have any extra servos to fit out and complete the assemblies. May have to wait until Christmas and see what is under the tree.

I enjoy seeing the old classics on this forum. My latest project isn't really a classic pattern plane but a speed/sport/turbine trainer. However, it pays homage to the Curare, Tiporare, and EU1A style pattern planes. 595 sq in, 53" span, and 59" oal. Jett FIRE 90 stuffed in the nose turning a 10x10 at 15,500. Very smooth and pretty quick.

With the help of my mentor I am about 60% complete on a "Saphir" a pattern plane. I am fiberglassing and paint it. he is teaching me the "credit card / toliet paper method of fiberglassing and "oh yes" how to sand you fingers to the bone. it will have a 91 two stroke in it with retracts. It is an awesome looking plane and I was told that it is a superb flying pattern plane. I also have a 2nd excellron 90 on the boards because they were on sale for $179.00 over labor day. I have an OV-10 bronco, partially built but on hold and I have a tiger 60 with retracts in the box ready for the bench.

All i need now is time!

Since I see you're working on a Perigee--does this mean you are able to offer some sort of a kit for the rest of us?? When I last checked, you were having some production problems. I would love to build another.

BTW--Don't know if you are aware, but the Perigee was featured in an American Modeler mag article, (Jan-Feb 1963). Jackie at AMA researched the article for me. For a guy who knew Tom Brett as a kid, and watched the Perigee, and Apogee fly "live"--it was fascinating reading.

Impactiq - I layed out the plane in CAD, but it's not really a usable set of plans. Sorry.

King.....

Problem with the Perigee is not in the design, but in shipping large sized wood.

The Perigee specifies several pieces of wood beyond 40 inches long. Thus shipping, and finding a shipping box is a problem. I presently only have one good box for the long wood required. This and the laser cutting minimum of three at a time for this, due to different set-up. Thus the parts involved in the semi-kit are no problem, it is the shipping that is. For a purchaser would have to order three kits, arrange for friends, etc. and then use same box to transfer those extra kits to next interested person. Just cannot do it economically one by one right now. Have had several requests to cut a kit, but once they know terms, they back off. Perhaps you need to organize with a few others.

OH, and the plan I have been going off of has Tom's signature in three places, in ink, on the mylar. Paper copies like from the kit only show one. Original plan is so huge it has to be done in portions. Am re-drafting and rearranging it at present time for 36 inch wide plotter which I have.

CoosBay..
Do you have a list of planes you have available? I'm interested in the Perigee. I live in Hawaii. I'll pay shipping no prob.

Funny you mention the plus 36" lumber. I needed 1 spruce stick 42" long. I had to order it from Spuce and Specialty. Cost of stick 26 cents. Shipping 9 dollars.
