IMHO, anyone who bids on these kits is an Idiot.

I think that it indicates a huge interest building for the aircraft we all love the most.

it`s just insane too bid that much money for a kit especially when both plans for those airplanes are availeble and u can just build it from plans.

Or, maybe that Greed is alive and well.[:'(]
Or, that P.T. Barnum was correct!
I personally wouldn't send that kind of money to someone in South Korea anyway.

Either not alot of people have seen the kits, or the Ebay Madness has reached its zenith.

I wouldn't send a penny overseas, paypal or not.

I am builiding a Curare from plans and I think so far I 've spent about $50 total. Takes a little more time cutting out parts, but the assembly time is about the same.

Cutting parts is probably my favorite stage of building. It's a relaxing, absorbing thing, sort of like getting lost in a book. I do it at night when it's really quiet. There's something about carefully drawing a #11 blade around rib outlines that is very calming, almost meditative. I hope I don't sound too weird!

rainedave,

I know where you are coming from, it's a Zen like feeling. specially cutting rib outlines. it also reminds me of younger days.....

Yea, there is no more than 75 dollars in the plans, the good contest wood, foam and glue to build a curare..... I think when I priced out the wood alone was less than 35 bucks....

people are nuts to pay that kind of money.....

can't wait to see what this one goes for in the end, should be interesting - once again...

The starting bid is $450.00. I would be surprised if it sells at all.

Now look what is up for grabs:

MK Beetle
http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-MK-BEETLE-60...QQcmdZViewItem

MK Joker
http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-MK-JOKER-60-...QQcmdZViewItem

I think this guy is just plain greedy. $449 starting bid as well. I hope he has to eat the listing fees, because no one in their right mind is going to pay $570 for that stuff.

All this make me wish I still had that MK Magic 60 kit I sold off a few years ago. If I remember right I let it go for $50.

just to keep things in perspective; if you have sold your house just few years before the prices hit the roof you would be in a much worst financial loss than that...

Prosperity & a Happy New Year to all!

Sometimes I wonder if these folks are buying these things with stolen credit card numbers. Or is the urge to win so bad they throw good money after bad?

They are convinced that in ten years the kits will be worth five times as much. But, in ten years there probably won't be very many people in the hobby who will even know that model airplanes were once built from kits.[X(]

10 years from will be another brave new world for modeling. These ships will either be museum pieces or somebody will arf them and the MK line will sink beyond the horizon.

As a pro seller on Ebay, this gentleman would do better if he had these as reserve auctions. It is doubtful if anyone will take that opening bid, but who knows? If he were in the USA, these kits would sell quite easily for close to what his opening bid is, however. What a shame we can't get MK Kits in the USA. I made some inquiries once, but the exchange rate and the shipping costs made importing the MK line too expensive in a world filled with ARF's. As for the shipping cost from Korea, the $120.00 is probably padded by about $30 to $40 dollars when compared to USPS Air Parcel Post costs of the same kit going to Korea.

Hey, you can ASK for any starting bid you want. Those prices are pretty close to what the Beetle cost from INDY R/C and less than what the Silent ST kit cost.
Only the Curare and the Arrow are unavailable as the other kits are still listed in Singapore hobbies most recent price list.
Silent ST - 818.40 SNG = ~ $535 USD
Beetle - 569.90 SNG = ~ $372 USD
Joker 60 - 412.10 SNG = ~ $250 USD
SHipping is about $35-$55 USD.
They are all great kits (complete hardware included), but not a great bidding strategy for Ebay. Plus it takes the fun out of getting into a bidding battle
I agree with ppljr - I'd rather have an Addiction 110 kit for that much money, but that's just me.
Now there's an MK Arrow .60 kit out there which is being bid up more conventionally (low start ... ridiculous finish; well, we'll see about the finish)
Happy Bidding!!!!

I agree. Most potential bidders will not opt for what is essentially a buy it now price as the first bid. Another concern would be the fact all you see is a fuzzy picture of the kit box, with no open content pictures. That with a really heavy shipping charge means these auctions will likely receive no bids at all, but who knows?

I’m not sure I understand. Maybe my memory is failing me but I do not remember the Addiction 110 from the 80s. Is it in the same “classic” value class as the Arrow or Curare? Other than the limited number of ARFs (two I think) the “classic” kits are getting to be hot items. I think it is wonderful that the “classics” are getting so popular and people will pay what it takes to have one. The future is looking very bright for these awesome machines!

Whenever I see this old stuff demanding top dollar on the auctions I think back to the Joe DiMaggio baseball card I had when I was a kid. He made such a wonderful motor noise when I strapped him to the front fork of my bike and he slapped against my spokes. I'm guessing my $39 Sears Springtail must have went through about $10,000 in baseball cards.

The Aurora went for 445... but guys, IT"S AN AURORA!

Peanuts compared to a $3,000 Pinnacle. ;-)
