Default YS 60

I picked up an old YS 60 at a swap meet this weekend. Does anyone have the manual for this engine? I am having a fuel draw issue with it. I can get it to run for about a minute and then it shuts off. It runs strong when it is running, really strong. This is my first YS any help would be appreciated.

Good Job on the YS .60!!

Here are some links you may find useful??
http://www.geistware.com/rcmodeling/...ys_engines.htm
http://www.yspartsandservice.com/

I think I have more links on another computer...I'll post them if I can get to them...

Sorry no .60 manual...I have .61's...

Re guarding your Fuel Starvation situation:

You should be able to use the Diagram for the .45 in this link below for your fuel line connections (I think)..
http://www.geistware.com/rcmodeling/files/ys45.pdf

Take special notice to the Check Valve Orientation!! (Sounds like a likely canidate for your problem)

Do you know the status of the Diaphram?? (Recently Replaced ect...)

Make sure your tank isn't leaking!!...Your fuel system needs to be Air Tight...

Your using an OS #8 Glow Plug..Right??

Needle Valve Open 1.5 turns from closed...

How is the Fuel Pressure Regulator Adjusted?? It should be Flush or "Slightly Protruding(1/16)"...Unless the Fuel Pressure Regulator Adjustment Screw is way out of wack...I'd wait to touch this until you have her up and running...***IF you monkey with this adjustment...Only turn the screw Very Very Slightly! 1/16th or 1/8 incriments are all thats required!! Very Tiny Adjustments***...Once you get her set-Up...You shouldn't have to mess with it...

If the diaphram has been recently serviced....One thing I have commonly run into is the gasket for the Regulator Body isn't cut very well...The Holes can be obstructed if your not careful...I have seen this on All my YS's...I just know to look for this and clear the holes by cutting them larger in diameter before putting the assembly back together...

YS Engines Require Special After Run Oil...People will debate tis...But most common Petroleum Based After Run Oils will ruin the Silicone Diaphram and O-Rings ect...I'll get you a link to what I use...It's costly...But a 8oz bottle will last you a lifetime...You only use two drops at a time...

That's interesting, I just picked up the same motor at the same swap meet. I'm assuming you mean Lebanon? I'm still trying to figure out what kind of plane to put it in though, but it's a great motor to have on hand. Mine did come with the instructions. What do you want to know? I'll email them to you if I can figure out how to scan them and send them. Does anyone here know how to scan documents without owning Adobe?

Yes, I did pick it up in Lebanon. LOL

It was already mounted to an older worn out airframe. I got the airframe, engine servo's and retracts foe $75.

The system is getting pressure, when I disconnect the fuel line the system is still pressurized and feeds a good amount of fuel, it seems that the carb adjustments are out of whack, I was looking for a base line to start with. It has an OS #8 plug, the plug appears to be good, but I did try a couple of other #8's with the same result. I may pull the engine and give it a good looking over; it acts like I am drawing air after a min or 2 of run time. At times it floods and at others it acts like it is starving for fuel. As this is my first YS, I am assuming that my standard trouble shooting methods for fuel system may not work here.

Thanks for the help.

I would love a copy of the instructions.

Good Deal on the Instruction Manuel!! (I'm pretty sure it should look very similar to the 45's manual...Kinda Curious to know...The 45's an spin off of the 60 so I'm just guessing the manuals will be very similar??)

You didn't specifically state...I didn't specifically ask...But just to confirm:
You have the Check Valve installed and oriented per the .45's Diagram...Correct??

What do you have for an Exhaust System??

Confirm the Regulator Adjustment screw is set Flush with the housing...

If it were me:
I'd get on the horn to YS Parts and Service and order a couple of Diaphram/Gasket/Spring/Plunger set-Ups(Same as .45's so they will be available)...I'd also order an O-Ring and Gasket set if available...(60 parts are apparently tough to come by...I "Think" that means Hard parts?? I'd assume gaskets/O-Rings ect should be out there??)

I'd get a couple of Fuel Filters and Check Valves too...

Closely Inspect the needle valve...I may just get one "just to have"...At least a set of Needle valve O-Rings(If Applicable...The 45 Has them...Assuming the 60 does too)

Inspect the carb for Dirt, Corrosion ect...

Replace the Diaphram,Spring,Plunger,Gasket...Check that assemby for dirt ect...(Note the possible gasket interference upon re-assembly...)

Replace the Check Valve and Fuel Filter...

Use Medium size Fuel Tubing for the Fuel System...

Confirm the Fuel System is Air Tight...

Fresh Fuel...

If you elect to use After Run Oil...Only use Ultra Oil...

Just My Opinions...

Good Luck getting her going!!

I never used after run oil, but would run FAI fuel (80% methanol and 20% oil; about 3% of the oil was castor) through the engine at the end of each flying session. Another thought for your problem: The check valve is just a simple ball valve. If the valve has been sitting for a long time it may not be working. You can soak it in alcohol to free up the ball.
Good luck - The YS short stroke is a great engine and they will last a long time!!
