Default SPA Aircraft List..Sequel and Others..

Hi all..In looking at the SPA list of Approved Aircraft I see a Sequel...I am wondering if this is the Aircraft I have pictured below off the PAC website?? It looks like "too late" of a design to me?? How do you get around the "Tuned Pipe" rule?? I'm kinda thinking that may not be the correct Aircraft...

I thought I had read the lineage of the Jekyll, Dr. Jekyll, Sequel, Prophecy, Prodigy...I *thought* I remembered they came in about that order and each were loosely based on the previous Aircraft...I could be wrong about that??

I have a Prophecy which I "think" is a later 80's era Aircraft?? Since time has flown by so fast..I guess it is feasible that the Sequel "could be" a pre 1976 design...But I wondered if that were true..Why wouldn't the Jekyll and Dr. Jekyll be on the list also?? I must have the wrong Sequel??

I should have a couple of Curare60 kits by the end of next month...I am looking forward to them for sure!! I had originally intended for them to be my SPA birds since they are on the list...I'd have to come up with a suitable "muffler" for the YS .61LS side exhaust engine...OR...I may build one for SPA with a side exhaust muffler engine and fixed gear...Then one Ballistic ship with the YS 61 piped and retracts...Not sure yet...

I just got a Carolina Custom Aircrafts brochure...I fell in love with the T2A's also...The T2A MKI (Only) is on the SPA Approved list...I like that one pretty well...That would be a nice SPA ship...

Does anyone know what era the Bridi Escape is?? The Dirty Birdy and XLT are on the SPA list...But not the Escape..I was wondering about that?? It really doesn't matter...I'll be putting retracts and a piped YS 61RE on my Escape so it won't be eligible for SPA...Ballistic Baby!!

Oh..Decisions..Decisions...

Thanks for your Help...

Chuck

I don't know the lineage of the Sequel listed as SPA approved, but I've got one in the basement with an OS 1.40 in the nose. That's the one offerec on the PAC site. It's a late 90's design.

Bridi's XLT is also not approved as it's too modern, though we have a number of guys flying Dirty Birdies.

A dynathrust muffler is ok for SPA use. Tom Atkins, designer of the T2A, has used one on a YS 61 in a T2A. The dynathrust might be a bit long, however.

I've got an OS 61 FX in a Taurus turning a 12x6x3 Master Airscrew. On 15% Cool Power, I get very nearly the same measeured static thrust as I get from my OS 91 on 30% heli. I measured 8 lbs 3 ozs of thrust at 11,600 rpm in mid-August last year. That's using the standard OS muffler.

I have been building Curares from MAN plans at 7 lbs +/- a couple of ozs ready to fly with OS 91 pumpers. A 61 ought to get you in at around 6 lbs 10 ozs. 8 lbs of thrust ought to be plenty to haul it.

I kinda figured that PAC Sequel wasn't it...

Ooops...I listed the Bridi XLT..My mistake...Your right...Just the Dirty Birdy is on the list...

I'm having trouble coming up with "Dynathrust" mufflers in a google search...You wouldn't happen to have any idea who may sell them??

I just looked up Jett's website...They have a Jett-Stream muffler and adapter listed for YS...That will work...

I thought about just getting a OS 61 FX...

I was checking out some pics of your Curare earlier in another thread...Nize!! I noticed the 4C engine...I have a YS .91AC...But that's not SPA approved engine due to the Air Chamber...Darn

Thank you for the info!!

That original Sequel was from a series in RCM? as a Pattern primer, mid 70's. Would make a nice SPA model.
