Howdy!

After reading through the Ballistic pattern Threads I am determined to start something similar in the Souther California area. I am not sure exactly where to start (help?) but I am motivated to get something like this going!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Everything Kewl starts in Cali...

I use to race BMX (Old School Days too..lol)...All my heros were from SoCal...Same with Motocross...Everyone cool was from SoCal...I had a lowered mini truck in the early 80's cause all my buddies/heros had them out there...

OK...Not too sure how I got off on that tangent...lol

I really hope this BPA takes hold...For everyone...From Coast to Coast...

navav2002: WOW! We are probably about the same age. As recent as about 1999 I fractured my scapula racing my 24" Cruiser at cactus Park BMX in lakeside. In 1986 I had a lowered Datsun 510 and parachute pants were the order of the day.... [X(] Good times man!

Anyhow, I emailed the admin. on the BPA page but no response- who actually started the movement/ site? I really like the SPA set-up but my target range are the Atlanta's, Aurora's, EU1A's, etc. with tuned pipes and retracts!

I am going to contact our club President and run it by him but I think I will start a web-site for the SoCal BPA. You heard it here first!!

Disclaimer: I have been flying regularly since 1981 but I have never competed in the Pattern of the day and I have not yet owned one of the above classics! The closest I have come was a Supra-Fly 25 (Supra-Fly 45 I still have today) and SIG Kougar.

Anybody else in SoCal wanna lend a hand?

I got your email but my home computer crashed before I could send a reply. There isn't a BPA organization as of yet the website is hosted by a local member he does compu kind of thing for a living and is rc crazy like most on this forum. It is good to see some BPA interest in socal. I have relitives in the onterio area. Once we have our contest in HSV maybe I can give a few pointers on what worked for us and what didn't work . The only thing I can say at the moment is set a date that doesn't conflict with other pattern or Imac type events and get out and promote your event around the region make sure the date is far enough out to give people a chance to build, borrow or buy a BPA style airplane. I have found that there are alot of people that like flying the BPA style airplane and if there is an event they will try to attend. Many of the people I expect at our contest fly current AMA turnaround stuff. So we shall see.

Why not join BPA and offer to start a branch at your location? Would be much simpler for you and good for them.

Thanks gentlemen,

Tony has offered to put a "southwest district" for the BPA on their site for us. Once I have my ducks in a row I can contact our local flying fields to see who would host an event.

Hopefully the BPA will spread like wild-fire and these events will appear regularly-

send me what you want as far as a web page and we will get the ball rolling!1

I'll be at the Huntsville BPA contest, but I won't have anything to fly. I have an Aurora that I sort of inherited, but I don't have an engine and assorted goodies yet. Plus, it needs to be totally revitalized.

That being said, I do fly current AMA/FAI pattern and this endeavor is just too cool to pass up. I hope people at least get in thier cars and make the drive.

If you want to start a BPA contest out there, then do it....don't wait for someone else to do it because it will likely never happen that way. Lead, and people will follow. Take Gary's example.

As for who started it, that's a can of worms. It's been going on for years, I remember talking about it 4-5 years ago, do a search. Gary just had the nads to make a contest.
