Trying to get back to the hobby after a 15+ year break. I got out the only plane i have left, my Kaos with a supertigre 46. The motor still runs fine, but the covering had split under the tail and was loose and pealing along the wing and bottom of the fuse. I've started removing all the covering, and wiill be rebuilding the plane this winter as we only have another month or 2 of good flying weather left this season. As I have been removing the covering alot of it has left the color on the wood but the clear portin of the covering lifts away, I'm figuring the rest of the covering will come off as I lightly sand the finish after removing the dings and dents that are currently in the wing and fuse. I plan to have it ready to go back in the air this next spring. I'm hoping to get my dad back into the hobby as well. We stopped flying when we lost our field an didn't have a place to fly anymore. We used to have a sod farm that kept a strip cut for us to use. I originaly bought this plane used from another member of our ould club as my first plane after I had soloed from an Eagle 63. i figured this would be as good a time as any to make a few changes to the plane I had been considering at the time i bought it. I will be converting it from trike to taildragger as my Eagle was a taildragger, I have given some thought to putting retracts on it as i can leave them down until I get my thumbs back but would have the conversion done at the time. I will at least be smothing out the lines that had not been sanded well at the time it was built. I am thinking about finding a fiberglass or plastic cowling that would work well with this plane raather than rebuilding the cowling in blasa. The current balsa cowl is about 10 or 12 peices as it had several repairs in it, and most of those repairs were done with epoxy rather than c/a, and were done with oversized pieces of balsa adding alot of extra weight. Does anyone know of a cowling that would fit onto a Kaos fuse? Any other suggestions that people have about mods to do on the Kaos will be considered as this would be the time to get them done. I remembe reading a while back about shortening the vertical stab on the Kaos.
