Thought you guys might enjoy these shots of my new/old Southern R/C Tiger Tail III. Was built in the late 80's by a friend and flown very little. Recently acquired it and installed new AXE Rossi .60. 8lbs w/ Dave Brown / Southern retracts.
It was a real kick to see and HEAR it in the air, just like the old days!

Thanks for the compliments. The photo was from it's first and only flight so far. Weather was bad, and I probably shouldn't have been up anyway, so decided not to "push my luck". The Rossi is brand new, so just getting it run (screamed) in. I'm using an 11/7 Zinger (old school) and 5% Powermaster. Ran super, but didn't get any numbers, etc. I think the wheels are old Kraft/Hayes "racing" wheels. I may replace those with some that are a bit fatter/softer and keep the thin ones to leave down for SPA events? I'll post some more info in a few weeks when I get some more air time on her.

It's an old Southern R/C kit w/ fiberglass fuse, foam wing and stab. The fuselages weren't the greatest. Blue polyester fiberglass. The TT III was designed for a rear exhaust .61 sitting upright. The kit included a fiberglass floor to go between the internal pipe and radio/tank compartments, but that was left off on mine. The wing and stab were sheeted w/ 1/16 in balsa and covered w/ Monokote. the fuse is painted with NAPA automotive paint. These kits were made in the late 1970's and early '80's. Their other pattern kit was Steve Helms' "Bootlegger" design. I didn't build this particular plane, so I can't tell you much more than that. It was built for a good friend who quit flying pattern after only flying it a few times. Sadly, he passed away about 2 years ago, and ultimately I acquired the plane. It was built as a taildragger to try to lighten it for the "new" turnaround pattern. I built a Bootlegger kit when they were new, for a Model Airplane News "Field and Bench" review with OPS .60. Flew great until you had to land, as it weighed about 10 lbs.! This Tiger Tail weighs about 8 1/2.
