I flew Novice for the first time at Hotlanta. Really didn't practice much before the event and really had no expectations or aspirations about coming away with a trophy. For me, it was all about the experience and learning. I have got to say all the experienced pilots were friendly and very helpful. I almost decided not to "embarass" myself by flying, but I'm really glad I did....fly that is
I'll be coming to the Hoosier event in Edinburg, and I'd encourage any pilots within driving distance, even if they've never flown pattern before, to considering coming out and trying the Novice class. You will not regret it!
btw, this link will take you to the contest calendar on the SPA web site where you can pre-register for the event and download a flier (I didn't see a flier on the JCRCF.NET site...).

Randy;
I'm planning on registering for the event now that the "pressure" is off after the Asheville SPA contest. Looking forward to seeing you. To the best of my knowledge, several of the SPA "regulars" will be coming (WAY) up there to give you some support. It's not WHERE it is, it's WHAT it is, and where the emphasis is, (on making each each participant feel welcome) that matters the most.
Hope people from the midwest, (who have been reading about SPA and wondered about it), will come out and "try it on for size". This is the time and Edinburgh is the place.
See you
Duane
