Welcome to Italian madness!

I just ran my NIB Picco .60 the other day. Cheese and Crackers is all I can say.

BTW, I read that the "P" in OPS is Picco, who split off at some point.

O.P.S stands for Officine Picco e Saoner which means the workshops (machineshops) of Picco and Soaner. It was set up by Gualtiero Picco and is based in Monza.

Thank Ray. Looks like I only had it partially right.[X(]

But, aren't both OPS and Picco engines still being produced?

No idea David. Never owned or used a Rossi, OPS or Pico. "Windcosmic" ( Giovanni ), who posts on here occasionally, would probably know.

Hi! Yes, Ops engines are still being produced. Picco now only makes car and boat engines

Thanks windcosmic. I think I read somewhere that some OPS parts will fit in Piccos. Is that true?

i have a good understanding of which of the OS and YS 2 strokes were speed vs pattern, etc. but i don't know a lot about the differences in OPS engines. i just know that some of them are reputed to be the most ferocious 2 strokes ever made. anybody?

David, I'm sorry to break the news, but it's my Picco that runs like a Ducati. Think of your OPS ans a nice, mid-range Vespa.[X(]

Of course, I'm just kidding. Maybe windcosmic can fill us in on the various versions and how they rank.

rainedave

Look at the thread of the Ed Kazmirski Taurus, may be one of them use a OPS in the Taurus.

This one!

it was on the extreme speed prop plane forum where i saw once that one OPS had to be run with a continuous strand carbon fiber prop only. i'll check the park flyer forum out and see what they recommend for Picco's[X(][sm=teeth_smile.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]

Hi! The OPS in the pic is an earlier Ursus .60. The actual .60 sized OPS are offered in long and short stroke version. there is a rear exhaust version, too. They have two piece cranckcase and gold head. the carburetor is the two needle slide type. They loos pretty close to the old Picco .60 with black head. most of the parts are interchangeable, too. The best is the short stroke rear exhaust, in my opinion.

rainedave, yes ops and picco have alot of interchangeablility, piston and sleeve and rods, bearings etc, dont sweat the prop issues unless you trying to run 9 inch or less prop diameters
