Default Intruder 90 Tail Dragger??

Any of you guys have turned your WM Intruder into a tail dragger?

Our field is pretty rough.

I've coverted three A-6s to tail draggers. Not a big deal. Can I help?

Skip, I wouldn't mind seeing how you converted your Intruders. I'm building one now and have been going back and forth trying to decide whether to leave it as a trike or to go tail dragger. I would personally like to make it a tail dragger with the mains in the wing, but I'm not thrilled with the idea of cutting into the wing.

I didn't take any pictures.Just cut open the bottom of the wing just enough and make up some ply formers to support the landing gear blocks. I bought some new blocks at the LHS. I set the new gear up parallel to the original so that the axles are very close to the leading edge. Some 1/16 ply on each rib as doublers should suffice. I used hard maple blocks on the bottom of the gear rails and then drilled to accept the 5/32 landing gear which I had bent up by a friend. I wish I had some picture s for you but I don't. The whole process to about a days work. By the way , I used a sullivan tail wheel assembly also. As a footnote: I had a block rip out of the wing after about 200 flights on this plane from a bad landing on a not-so-smooth grass runway.I accept part of the blame but make sure you get the new gear supported as well as you can.

With the narrow track and the gear foward of the leading edge, thats not going to be much better than a trike.

You may be able to improve the trike gear with a better nose gear.
