JR 2.4 Radio's - Buddy Box ?
I changed to the X9303 and the DX7 2.4 radio's some time ago. I gave away my 8103 complete set-up with a Sig LT-25, RTF to a guy and his kid, with the buddy box. He found one of my Phoenix' with a new Rossi in it, down by the water where gator's like to roam. Engine quit, no air speed to get it back.
Now I need a buddy box to teach someone to fly. Nothing on Horizon's site that is compatilbe with 2.4. Do I have to buy another 72 mhz radio and buddy box ?

RE: JR 2.4 Radio's - Buddy Box ?
I have a 9303 on 2.4 & used the std JR Sport S400 buddy box all summer training 5 students, must have been around 100 flights with zero issues...not sure why that item now says "not compatable" with Spektrum.
I would call Horizon & ask as that sure seems to be the only buddy box they list. It's 4 degrees in NY today so I'm not too concerned about flying anytime soon!

Crank,
I know you can use 2 DX7's together (with one as a trainer box). I'm speculating that perhaps you can use a your 9303 and DX7 together the same way ?

RE: JR 2.4 Radio's - Buddy Box ?
Crank,
are you looking for an actual buddy box or just a cord? If the latter, JR's trainer system is simplicity itself. You just need the 2-pole cord that goes into the DSC port between any two JR/Spektrum TX's. The only concern I would have is with respect to the signal encoding between 72 and 2.4 systems. As far as I know, the digital encoding of the RF signal on the 2.4 DX7's is applied to a PPM stream. This same PPM stream should be understood by the DX7 via a 72 TX connected via trainer cord and passed on to the RF section of the DX7.
I'm speculating but I'll give it a try as I have both a JR 6 ch 72 system and a DX7. I believe that this system is what allowed Spektrum the versatility to offer RF modules that quickly convert a 72 radio into a 2.4 radio. I have a JR Century 7 (mid '80's) TX with all the analog switches and knobs. I stuck a Spektrum RF module into the back and guess what!? 2.4 modulation! BTW, the C7 is not on Spektrum's/JR's list of radio's that can be converted (it predates those by about 10 years!)
With respect to the X9303, I'm not so sure as I suspect that the encoding is digital all the way. Though perhaps the same circuitry is built into it for analog DSC/Trainer purposes with other JR 72 systems. If you have a cord, just plug it between your DX7 and the X9303 and let us know. Give the student the DX7 and you're set.
Just a couple of thoughts, David.

RE: JR 2.4 Radio's - Buddy Box ?
You can buy a training cord at horizon it comes with 2 jack plugs and 1 round to use with futaba radios.
You can connect dx7 to 9303 or viceversa , dx7 to dx7 or even to a futaba radio with round plug, been using it without any issues that way.
Hope this helps.

I wrote to Horizon about a Buddy Box with the 2.4 radio's. Fast response below.

Thank you for your recent email. Any JR or SPM radio can be used with
the X9303 or FC7 as a trainer box. This includes the S400 trainer box
offered by JR. If you have any other questions, please let us know!
Thanks,
