Ivan Christensen's Summit
I am seeking photos, articles and equipment details of Ivan Christensen's 1985 Summit. Zimbabwe Model Products produced a kit that is happily soon to be in my shop via Buy-Bay.

Rusty,
I'm one of the others bidding against you on the Summit. Sorry I ran it up, then gave up on you. BUT, I did get the Checkerboard by Steve Helms! YEEHAW! Now if I can get the two Webra .61 r/e's with Dynamix carbs and pipes back that I gave to a friend a couple of years ago...
I met Ivan a couple of years ago at the Don Lowe Masters after reading about him for the last 25 years. True gentleman of the sport to me.
Congrats on the Summit!

Hi Rusty,
the original Summit was powered by a YS 60FR with a 12x9 Yoshioka prop (laminated wood like Asano) with MK retracts. Great looking and flying airplane. I competed at the 1985 Nats which was the debut contest for the Summit which Ivan won. The airplane appears in the Model Aviation Nats report for that year as well as the 1985WC report (nice color shot) also in Model Aviation. These photos can be found in the AMA archives of MA magazine. You may also be interested in a video segment found in R/C Video MAgazine (which was around from about 1984 to 1989). There was a 20 minute report on the 1985 nats in volume 4 which includes an interview with Ivan and some great flight footage. He is the featured interviewee. There is also an interview with Bob Hunt and Dean Pappas with the 'Project Pattern' EU1-A (no flight shots) and sn interview with (a very young) Chip Hyde and some flight shots of his Dalotel. Steve Helms' Checkmate also appears in some good flight footage. My Daughter has a new DVD player which can record onto DVD (it also has a VHS player) and I'm hoping to transfer the VHS segment onto DVD. If this works out I'll be happy to make copies. As an added bonus
I'll also include the 12 minute segment (from vol 11) of the 1988 Nats which again features Ivan with his Summitt III (interview and in-flight footage). The 1988 segment has Steve Helms appearing, flying his Aurora. Chip Hyde is also interviewed with his (Larry Phillips) Conquest IV.
I've had the pleasure of chatting with Ivan on many occasions back in the '80s - great guy! I hear he's getting back into pattern!

Summit Information?
As expected you all are very helpful. Flywilly, the video sounds nifty and may be posted on this fine RCU site under the video section.
Regarding Ivan...I had a chance to judge at the 2007 ETOC with Ivan...a real kick considering my "Stalker" status for all of those guys. It is good to know that his was YS powered...I think I can finally more easily acquire one of those...
Keep the pictures, information coming!

Rusty,
Why not just email Ivan and ask him
His current email is on his site, www.ivankristensen.com you can find him on skype as well
Yes he is getting back to pattern, he flew at the Canadian Nats this summer, he had a major run of bad luck and lose two Osmose in the spring otherwise he might have decided to try for the team. Its quite likely you will see him at the US Nats next year, and maybe at the 2011 Worlds
I let him have a go on my Integral, it wont take him long to get back in the groove.
