Default Moving to Georgia!

Well, I have been lurking around this forum, and even hosting a SPA contest here (in Ft. Worth), and now I'm going back to work for Delta. I took furlough when they shut down DFW operations, but timing couldn't be better for a return. The company I'm working for now has an uncertain future, that much is plain to see. I will be reporting for duty on March 8, and leaving my wife here for now. We are expecting our first child in mid April, so she will stay here for a bit. It is fairly certain I will be able to hold a three-thirteen shift, and will commute until we settle. A co-worker says Peachtree City is nice, but what I'm looking for is the club that is buzzing with classic pattern activity!!! So where is it?

Sorry to hear your leaving, but sounds like this will work out great for you. Keep in touch with us here in Texas.

You will probably wanna take a look at this club!! Not sure of the current pattern activity but the site is suppose to be the incredible!! One of the premier sites in the country (or so I've been told..I've never actually visited)...Should be convenient if you choose Peachtree City or surrounding area...
http://www.georgiajets.org/

There is apparently an active group of upper level modern pattern guys in the area but not sure where they fly...

I think allot of SPA types hang out at Paulding County Model Aviation which would be a little bit of a hike for you:
http://www.pcmaviation.org/

GMA has a Very Nice site also but again sort of a long drive (approx 1.5 hours)

Welcome to the area!! Hope you like it!! Hope to run into you someday...

Congrats on returning to work for Delta!! I always wanted to work there..I've visited the TOC a few times and I really like their composite shop... [8D]

Have Fun...

Chuck

admittedly peachtree city is a popular location for delta employees. Atlanta 60 is right about the various clubs.

If you are into Classic Pattern then the Paulding County near Dallas, GA may be for you. They have at least one SPA contest there each year. The field is a bit short but long enough. If you have kids Cobb Co. has some of the best schools in the state and close to two very good clubs, about the same distance as Peachtree city.

The Paulding County club Pres. this year is Mickey Walker, who is the founder of the SPA. The clup is real heavy SPA and the local area is very afluent and about 1 hour from the airport. Look us up when you get to the area and someone can show you around.

Thanks Scott, I'm a registered member there. I had spoken to you about a Deception a few months back; a lightened version for a Webra 55p5. Are you in the Atlanta area?

I am a retired Delta pilot, and I live in Newnan , Georgia which is about 25 minute drive from the Georgia Jets field. ( also close to Peachtree City. ) I fly SPA and AMA . There are a few of us in the club that are active in pattern. There are also many jet fliers there. You will not find a better facility in the South in my opinion. Good luck on your move. This is a great place to live. Skip

It's funny how small the world is, I was just looking at a clubs gallery, and saw Joe Holten's pic. I met him at the LHS here in December, his son lives close to me.

I live in Sandy Springs which is just north of Atlanta and south of Roswell. I too belong to the GMA and it is a great field and bunch of guys. It takes me 1/2 an hour to get to Hartsfield Airport and 45 minutes to the flying field which I get to 2-3 times a week during good weather. There are a number of Delta pilots in the area; in fact one lives just one house down from me. Also Atlanta Hobby and Extreme Flight are half way between the GMA field and my house which is convient. Atlanta is a great place to live.

I live in West Cobb near the Paulding County and Cobb clubs. I do not belong to either yet simply because I've been heavy into tennis, my second passion after RC, and it takes up much of my time. I will be reducing this soon so that I can get back into RC. I have a room full of, well... "stuff", including Big Stick, Kaos, Katana electric, jr 9303 2.4, Cubs, etc. Oh, and one Supra Star (actually, not sure if it is a Supra Star, but it is a Prettner design. In KY I used to have a Supra Fly 45 with a Rossi 61 RE and retracts, it was a rocket!) that I bought at Perry recently! It is built and marked with a 4 digit AMA member number. Curious to see who might have owned it! I will post a pic tomorrow.

In any event, I work for FAA at the Regional Office near Hartsfield and have driven it for 13 yrs. I can say that is is indeed a roughly 1 hr drive, however, there are about 10 different ways to get there so that alternatives always exist. I am in the minoruty however, with most co-workers living on the South-side. I used to fly for Prinair down in SJU (Herons), which a few of you might remember from the late sixties through the mid 80s. I was there 77-83 until i joined the FAA.

Your in for a treat with Perry, Joe Nall and SEFF all withing a few hrs, not to mention the wonderful SPA folks. Their events are simply nice! I once saw Bruce Underwood, President of SPA, win a brand new RC system, don't recall which one, but I remember thinking it was a nice radio, in a raffle at one of the SPA events at the Paulding club... know what he did? He donated it back so another member could have a chance to win it! How's that for friendship and generosity?

Link to my neighborhood, just as a reference wynfordchace.com

Please let me know if I can help in any way/cp
