Default RCU Problems

Is anyone else having problems using RCU?

I barely managed to log on with a specific browser and to navigate here without being booted off or RCU giving me an error message.

Now, not only am I logged out every few hours but when I logon I'm presented with a formatted error message page with references to "cold fusion" (a programming interface or compiler I believe).

Could the moderators please provide some feedback here. I can't move around RCU but I should still be able to view this thread even as a Guest if necessary.

Many thanks, David.

You would better be served by posting this in the RCUniverse Support / Forum Questions or Problems forum / sub-forum. RCAdmin hangs out there and is pretty good about feedback.

What's your OS & browser? I've used Win 7 w/ IE 8, Firefox, Chrome & Safari with few problems. I don't stay logged on for hours.

Well,

things seem to be better now. I'll see how it goes.

I was having problems logging in, navigating - just about anything. The reason I posted this here was because it was the only place I was able to land and post something briefly. Then I was booted off.

I'm on WXP any and can use several browsers (Firefox, Safari, Chrome - don't use IE) but usually use FF. I'm pretty sure it's not a browser issue - at least not directly. I think RCU updates software from time to time and things break temporarily. Ever since the attempted change of RCU interface, my account has never been the same.

As far as I know there isn't a user preference that allows you to set whether you are logged on until you log out or you are logged off unless you specify you want to be logged on permanently. However, Firefox allows you to keep your tabs open where they last were between sessions - I see no need to log on each and every time I start my browser and would rather just keep any RCU pages of interest open to where I last left them. This was the behavior in the past. Now, I have to log on every 3-6 hours or so - a bit of an annoyance.

Anyone else have to log on a few times a day or daily?

David.

Well,

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. Must be RCU code not quite working. I saw there were some new options at the bottom of the posting page yesterday - now they are no longer there...

I've gotten some PM fatal error messages too.

David.

I'm primarily a Firefox (FF) user myself. I've received and sent several PMs today without any issues. I will close FF and save the sessions then when I restart the previous windows will be reopened. This doesn't mean that I've been logged on the whole time just that FF has saved the URLs of the pages that I was viewing and will go back to those same pages on restart of FF. I usually have 3 - 6 RCU tabs open concurrently, maybe more. I know that RCU has a bunch of servers facing and serving the internet. Mostly they are not displayed on your screen unless you're looking at RCU Magazine then you'll see shaded text at the bottom that has "RCU4" or something similar. RCU4 is one of their servers.

Seamus,

That's essentially what I do as well.

However, in the past I used not to be logged off between FF sessions. I understand the concept of caching pages between sessions so that they re-open upon every browser startup. The thing is that RCU used to have a "cookie" memory if you will that avoided you from having to manually log on each time you access the site. As I say, this is required every 3-6 hours during the day even when my computer and browser are running continuously.

RCU is not a bank - there should be no reason to be booted off on a regular basis.

Also, your success in being able to send PM's or otherwise and not having problems is of little indication. What is an indication of there being some issue going on is whether there are others who are having problems. Otherwise the problem is specific to my account and setting. The behaviour is the same regardless of which browser I use - something which leads me to believe the issue is related to my account settings rather than my browser - or, RCU with certain users (for example based on when their account was created or from which server they are being served).

Dean, if you see this thread, would you mind having a quick look at my settings/account to see if this can be fixed. I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks, David.
