Hello Gentlemen,
A good friend of mine and I were talking last weekend at the field and we started talking about Classic Pattern planes. My friend has been in the hobby allot longer than I have and he's the best pilot I know. Thanks to this forum and the Classic Pattern Image base I recognized every plane we discussed until my friend started talking about his Mistress. My friend said his plane flew so well that it was almost boring to fly. It had no roll coupling with rudder input and took absolutely no down elevator to fly inverted. If anyone has any information on the Mistress, I'd greatly appreciate it. Pics, of course, would be awesome....
TIA for the help.

The Mistress was designed by Dave Von Linsowe, it was kitted by Phillips Aircraft. You see a kit every once in a while. I don't have any pictures. It was very close in appearance to the Checkmate designed by Steve Helms.

You guys are great,
Jeff, please let me know what you find out. If your friend is willing to sell a kit or a built one, I'd be interested in it.
Khoard & Dhall,
You guy cracked me up, which I really needed after the day I had at work today. Thanks
RFJ, Is that the Usa Star in the picture? Very nice looking plane indeed. Thanks for posting it.
Any more pictures of the Mistress out there fellas?
David

Awww geezzz, don't post pictures like that - I'm gonna hurt myself... Where's the field????
OK, I had 4 Mistresses... NOT like the one pictured above ([&o]). Let me rephrase that: I had 4 Mistress airplanes; ok, now my wife is happy (er).
A great flying airplane! I have photos somewhere (not digital - I built them back in the late '80s - early '90s). There are photos in several issues of Model Aviation (look in the Nats issues from 1985-1990). Daves original prototype (wood/foam) flew in 5 Nationals and 3 team selections (if memory serves) and had a LOT of flights. YS 60FR powered with his own design soft mount (which he marketed, then later sold the rights to Dave Brown MFG.). The kit price was $150 for foam cores and fiberglass fuselage. The fuselage and fin were straight (unlike the PA-2). The fuse had plenty of pinholes and the seam had to be filed smooth, but the result was worth the effort as the Mistress was a very aerodynamically 'pure' airplane.
My Futaba radio went into fail-safe during one flight (which killed the throttle - my choice). I dead sticked without incident and turned off the Tx and Rx. When I went to check the airplane afterwards the TX had ceased transmitting (the battery was fine). Thanks Futaba - that was a close one.
I'd build another one!!

PS - being a diehard pattern flier I'll need two of the above photographed 'kits' - one for back-up

Ray,
WOW, The Mistress sure is a sweet looking airplane. Thanks for posting the picture....
I don't have a YS60FR for it, but I bet my NIB Rossi FIRE 61 and a proper pipe would pull a Mistress around just fine...
Dhall, Your Mistress is welcome at my flying field anytime...

I have an original set of drawing for the USA star. These are not the Direct Connection plans but an original set from Dave. I also have an original construction article written by Dave. I got them from Tony Frankowiak. If I could get a canopy I'd build one!!! I don't have any way of scanning them but I'm sure I could get them copied. I'll post a pic if anyones interested.
