Tower Kaos or one of the "Ugly Stick" style planes

A 45 size Extra 300 or similar would be a option

There are not a lot of Clasic Pattern planes in ARF, perhaps becoming a builder could be a option.

Hi,

Graupner Kwik Fly ARF (can be electric or nitro):

Robbe Mäxi (Maexi) ARF (can be electric or nitro):

A 56 4-stroke might be on the heavy side but it should be OK.

Are you already committed to using the Saito .56 engine? A Saito .82 fits in the same mounting foot print and will open up quite a few options in ARFs and kits since it has approximately the same power and weight as a strong .45 to .55 glow two-stroke engine. The Saito .56 is about as strong, but heavier and larger, than a strong .32 to .36 two-stroke engine. There aren't many selections available for the latter size engine.

If you already have the .56 and can't trade up, Phoenix Models (sold by Tower Hobbies) has a .25 sized low wing model that would fill the bill if you put the RC flight battery in the fuselage back behind the wing in its own little compartment.

On the other hand, the Kaos 40 ARF will just fly with the Saito .56 with extremely limited vertical performance and would be suitable for the lowest classes of competition only. However, if you are just starting out in aerobatics, that might not be a bad combo.

11 year old Brandon Sobolewski flew his Tower Kaos ARF at the Chicago Classic contest with an OS 62 4S and he did a very nice job. It seemed to fly well enough to be competitive in Novice, at least.

The OS .72 four-stroke is a much more powerful latest generation engine. The Saito .56 is not.

Tower Hobbies does not list an OS FS-62 at the moment. On the other hand, Saito does offer a .62, but if I were buying new from the start, I'd have to go with the Saito .82 (which I did, in fact buy). The Saito .82, or the OS .81 would be fine power plants. And, yes, as mentioned before, the Saito .56 might do well in the Kaos 40 ARF for someone just starting out. But, if I could choose between the .56 and an .82, you know which I would choose. I also have a .56, so I'm not down on the engine.

I would think that any 30 to 40 size ARF plane would do well on a 4s 56. For good performance I would look for something with a 52" to 55" span and about 450-500 squares. Other than that the entire ARF product line in the aerobatic class is open for selection.

David.
