Nothing fancy - I got the steel bench at Menards (under $100.00) and found the 1" thick pine top in the lumber dept. I squared and leveled the bench, screwed it to the wall studs then used a Great Planes Pro Building Board 16x48x3/4" for the building surface. I put the board crown up on the bench and used deck screws, shims and a good 4' level and squared it up. Before each project I sand the building surface and do a quick check with the level and its good to go. Hook - best I can do now on the pic as I started the wing layout already. |

Good enough pic Jim, I was curious about how it was set up. Continue with the build :D !

The wing is a little tedious due to the sweep - every joint has to be mitered for proper fit. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1940879http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1940881http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1940882http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1940883http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1940884http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1940885

I have the rudder ans elevator glued up. I will be installing Robart hinge points on all control surfaces (http://airfieldmodels.com/informatio...ints/index.htm) I had to add some balsa to the elevator to accept the hinge points. Final sanding will occur after the control surfaces have been hinged, although the hinge points will be removed and reinstalled on final assembly, after finishing.
Generally, I build the model to completion, radio gear, push-rods - everything possible PRIOR to covering and finishing. I will next start on the wing set up Missile - I ordered wood from National Balsa. They sell landing gear block and I will probably be using Sullivan hardware for the gear. Mains need to be bent from 5/32 stock. I use a tubing bender for that purpose. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1938970http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1938971http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1938972http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1938973 Plans/ pile o wood / rudder / rudder & elevator |
Munster,
Hope you don't mind me asking again. I have looked high and low for a copy of Don's Phoenix 1 plans. With RCM plan service out of business, I was hoping that I could buy a set from you or if you know of some where to look, you would share that info with me. RCM will take your money but hasn't shipped plans in over 6 months. I heard that they didn't renew their business license for 2014. If you can help me, let me know how to pay you. A tiff file would be perfect. Many thanks and appreciation, Glynn Furr AMA 30686 [email protected] |
Glynn,
I know Munster personally but haven't talked to him for awhile. I do know he got his P-1 from Eureka Aircraft. You can order just the plans from them ($15.00 plus shipping). The URL for that page is here: http://www.eurekaaircraft.com/plan_kits/phoenix.htm We're hoping to see some updates from Munster here pretty soon. Mark |
Thanks Mark
I placed an order for the plans from Eureka. Must have looked too hard to have missed then. Glynn .. |
No worries Glynn, glad you got the plans, now git her built!

Haven't got them yet, but did place an order. It you see Munster, see if you can find out how his flew. I saw one back in the 60's that flew very well. A little on the fast side as I member which might be a problem for me now. :) I had a Lanier Saber (this was their 60's model not their 90's model) and flew it to pieces. It was coveered by something called Air-O-Sheet, which was thin PVC as I recall. The adhesive was MEK.
I'll keep you posted on the built. |
