YS 61AR Mounts
 
I just picked up an Atlanta and a YS 61AR with header for a steal. The YS is perfect inside! The Atlanta is setup for a back plate mount??? At least that is what it looks like. DId they used make a back plate mount for 61s back in the 80s? The firewall has the rubber type Lords mount attached that are threaded to bolt the ears of the spider type back plate mount.

pretty common back then still works fine.very easy to service as the lord mounts are common....

Gator made a "back plate" mount. Sounds like thats what may be is in your Atlanta.

Jeff,
If your are in need of a back plate mount for your engine. I have one that was on a YS 61. It mounts on top of the back plate and uses the same screws that holds on the back plate. My camera has dead batteries in it..... But I will get you a picture of it. If you can use it.... it is yours.

It is setup for either the Dave Brown on Sullivan since the lower engine bolts are closer together and not a square pattern like a Gator or Dubro mount.
So in the heck do you know how tight to tighten the rubber? YOu can put but so much grunt on the bolt or the rubber will tear, yes?
I have only ever used Gator or Hyde mounts.

not much torque is needed to screw the lordmounts to the firewall. blue loctite used sparingly is enough. I finger tighten the lord mounts to the firewall

Finger tight? I guess the bolt from the mount into the lordmount will keep the lordmount from unscrewing itself, along with the loctite. I know the lordmounts that are in there are TIGHT!!!! I have to figure out to remove those since they are old.

people often glue them in place along with tightening them..I use blind t-nuts with a smidge of blue thread locker..

I produced the soft mounts (back in the 88-91 time frame) now marketed by Sullivan Products (shown in post #10). Don't use any locktite on the screw threads, either on the stud/plate isolators into the blind nuts/firewall, or the screws that clamp the rear mounted plate to the rubber isolators (the external tooth star lock washers provided work perfectly), as you'll never be able to remove the isolators from the blind nuts if you do! I never had one come loose, nor did anyone tell me that they did either. It was a very simple yet robust system that worked quite well at isolating engine vibration from the airframe.

It's not needed for the mounts I sold, I know that the other mounts produced by Performance Products Unlimited (and later by Dave Brown Products) utilized a nose ring, but I know of no one that used a nose ring with my design.

One of these days I might. I do have an old EU-1A kit and all of the legacy hardware to go with it, it'd be the 5th one for me, lots of memories there going WAY back. I still remember your crash at Mile Square back in 1987 or 1988 due to an R/C car being on your aircraft frequency! You had what, one usable component left in the wreckage? (the glow plug)! If you have the pics of that motor available, you should post them. Ouch!

What a memory you have!!! It was the NSRCA District 7 Championship and I was in the hunt for first. I had to fly the rest of that flight and the next round with a buddy's tipo and I didnt fare too well with a plane I had not flown before.

It still hurts to look at it. Before and after pictures for your pleasure.

Here is also a picture of my new ride.

Please try to come to the next Classic Pattern event even if you dont have a plane. You can fly mine or just shoot the poop with us. Tom McNicolas is going to start attending as well.

photo #2 is just sad - who was the wise guy who put the bottle of CA and Kicker in the photo! One of the many pluses of the new radio technology!
