JDBuddy, Great job! I enjoy building as much as flying so the extra work will be okay with me. I like the foam wing cores, my Dad and I used to cut out our own years ago. What did you use for adhesive on the wing sheeting? Any building tips are appreciated:D

I've told my wife "honey, it's not balsa dust, it's linoelium floor conditioner" and, "yes, balsa dust IS good for the carpet":D

I'm building one now. I remember when I was learning to fly 12-13 years ago tower telling me it was too advanced and never got around to building one.

I pre-glued the balsa sheets together with wood glue and sanded, cut sheets like the book says, lay wax paper on the foam sheaths, spread ProBond Polyurethene Glue on the sheets with a putty spreader with little notches in it on that appropriate side of balsa. Find a level spot on a building table or hard surface. Lay the bottom foam sheath down>wax paper>balsa >core>balsa>wax>middle foam sheath>wax>balsa>core>balsa>wax> top foam sheath. I used a empty fish tank I had to lay on the top to weigh down ( its all I had big and level enough to lay on top). :)

Note: as I was laying down the cores and sheets I put a few t-pins around it to hold all together so it all wouldnt slide around.

But that's what makes it a great hobby, learning the skills to build a great airplane. Arf's are ok if you want a cookie cutter model design. I built a kougar 20 years ago and I don't recall that much sanding. Nice finish though. That was the difficult part for me, keeping the weight down with the k&b epoxy paint.

Starting the hobby again in the last couple of years. Waiting for Bridiairplane Utter Chaos 40 in the mail.

The Kougar is one of Sig's "Craftsman" series and apon inspecting the contents of the box, it seems that the parts are just stenciled out on the balsa and you have to cut them out yourself! This is going to be fun and will most likely keep me busy for a while. The instruction booklet also says that a sheet of glass underneath, is the flattest thing to use when sheeting the wing cores. I just found out what to use that old plate glass mirror for I've had laying around for years.:D

The SIG Kavalier Kit is also drawn and you have to cut, carve, shave as well. Only a few pieces are precut

So, are the Kobras "craftsman kits, too? As someone who prefers to build from plans I think I would enjoy a kit like this.

choas' are #1 in my book. I have a friend with an old chaos 60 hanging up said I could fly it, but I have also been considering the utter chaos kit from bridi, looks like fun!

raineday, I too used to live in Swanna-nowhere before moving to Black Mtn.! Up in Buckeye Cove actually. The biggest problem around here is there's no place close to fly [:@]! I don't belong to a club yet but have been flying my small 1/2a stuff and motor gliders out of a hay field @ Warren Wilson college. They haven't hasseled me yet, and of course being an AMA member helps with insurance just in case I hit a cow or something :D! I met a guy from this forum who flys with the club @ the old landfill in Woodfin. I'm going to join them and get some bigger stuff in the air this spring.
