Name that plane LOL

I have decided to design my own pattern ship. I am a big fan of the classic 60 size birds, so I have decided to follow the retro route.

I have decided to use features from a lot of my all time favorites and incorporate them into one design.

Can anyone name the plane I started with. I will let you guess for a while before I lay out where the ideas came from and what my intent is.

If you leave off the additional belly section it reminds me of a Mach 1.

Yes I started with the Mach 1. I always loved the way it flew.

1. I gave it more side area because I wanted better knife edge flight. That's also why I enlarged the rudder.
2. The Mach 1 always seemed to have some roll coupling. So I moved the rudder hinge line to a true vertical position.
3. I have had 2 Mach 1's over the years. One I built and one I bought already built. The one I built always seemed to run out of elevator at low speeds. So I have decided to give it an anhedral stab. Well I also think an anhedral stab will look cool too. LOL. Think Curare and UFO.
4. I also always liked that clean look of a pipe hidden in a belly pan. Like the old illusion.
5. I am planning on using one of my super tiger 90 engines and was concerned about the fuel tank area, so I elected to convert it to a tail draggers for simplicity and extra room in the nose. I also wanted to get 8178 fired up. LOL
6. I also wanted something quicker to build than the Mach 1 fuse. So I changed the way the fuse is built. I just don't feel like all of that carving of the top blocks. I built a Bridi Killer Chaos over the winter and loved the use of Triangular stock in the fuse top, I certainly made it easier to round off the corners. LOL.

Overall it should be a great flying bird. I haven't changed the wing and stab, or there locations.

And I think it will look pretty cool, when its done.

I hope you guy will agree.

Paternguy,

Looks to me like you have an EU1 A with Mach One wings !!!! Doesn't really matter as I think you have captured the "spirit" of the designs of that era where they need to fly ballistically and look great while doing it !!! Good luck w/your project...

I have a little more work done on my new bird and I picked out a good name ( I think LOL).

I need to make notations on the plans and I will be done.

Dan,

I actually think it ended up looking more like the LA 1 than the Eu-1.

Either way I think it looks cool and should fly great. Its not the picture I had in my head when I started, but I really like where my imagination took me.

With the Mach 1 dimensions and the wing and stab it should be fast but yet very stable.

I will post a build thread when I get started on it.

It is beautiful and it does capture the essence of the Seventies. The Mach 1 was my guess too.

Yes, I got the plans, they are excellent.

So are you ordering the Dynamic Balsa cores?

Looks like I might be building two of them. I shared my idea with a Friend from my club and he is really into it.

Foam Cores from Dynamic Balsa $42.98

Wood from Lone Star $44.50

$87.48 per airframe. Not too bad.

Were there two different wing platforms for the Mach I? Note the wing shape on these Mach Is http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4704479/tm.htm I always thought it had a leading edge that was a straight line.

My Midwest Mach 1's had a very slight taper to the leading edge. The plans I have also show the very slight taper. I understand that there was a fiberglass version, that may have been slightly different. You might want to check with Dan.
