Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

About five years ago Performance Specialties ( http://www.pspec.com/default.asp ) sold true ABC liner and piston sets for OS 61SF ABC-P and OS 61RF ABC-P engines. I contacted them to see if they would be willing to manufacture them again and they are interested. As you may know OS has discontinued the liner sets for the SF. They would need an order of 50 units that could be a mix of SF and RF parts. The selling price will be $90 with a 50% deposit and 50% on shipment . It would take about 90 days to gear up for production. I have extra liner sets in my spare parts kit but it would be nice to have some Performance Specialties liner sets too. I think I’d order two sets. Is anyone else interested in trying to get an order together?

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

Would they have that available for FSR 61 ABC as well, or be able making it available ?
In that case I would be interested.
Further, I have a OS 61SF, could maybe use a spare as well, and tell that company never to stop produce such things !

Best regards,

Steven

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

I would think they might do FSRs too but that would need to be a separate deal.

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

Could you ask about that ? I guess a lot of other people have such a nice engine lying around, having the same problem

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

They said that the FSR liner is a different size so it would require a separate 50 quantity order.

I'd definitely be interested. I need a new piston/liner for a .61RF.

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

Would they consider the Hanno Special liners as the same? Bore and stroke are the same as the earlier long-stroke version, but they have the additional exhaust port notches.
I'd take a couple of Hanno piston/sleeve combos. I had three OS .61RF ABC-Ps with PS piston/sleeves. Lots more power and incredible durability compared to stock OS. Wish I'd kept them[:o]

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

We can do the Hanno along with the SF/RF. The ID and OD of the sleeves is the same as are the pistons. It is likely that we will not do these in ABC, but in AAC. Aside from them being lighter in AAC, we have found them to be more durable than ABC, so you get a better product.

Are rods still available thru Tower/Hobbico/etc? It is always advisable to change the rod when you install a new P/C in an engine. If rods are an issue, I suppose we can make them too.

Looks like we are getting some interest on this. Keep beating the bushes so we can get an order together.

Hi,

Count me in for the following:

2 x Liner and Piston assembly for the O.S MAX .61 SF ABC-P.
3 x Liner and Piston asembly for the O.S. MAX 61 RF ABC "HANNO SPECIAL".

Delivery to Stockholm, Sweden where I live should not be a problem I guess.

With kind regards,

I want to add that these parts will be of the highest quality. The quality level of parts will be like what you would see in the high end engines like the Nelson engines.

Wow, since we seem to be placing orders I'd like the following:
3 sets Hanno special piston/sleeve
1 set OS 61RF (pre-hanno) piston sleeve

I assume the orders will actually go through Performance Specialities and this is just to make sure we'll have enough orders for Dave to produce a run of piston/sleeves.
A BIG THANKS to DAVE SHADEL for helping keep our 60s going!!

Dave, I've been following this thread wondering if doing the same thing ref YS 60s is a possibility. I've done a few web searches looking for YS 60 pistons/liners with no success so I'm guessing there might be a market for those as well. What do you think?

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

I would go for a set for the 61RF engine, but I would prefer regular ABC (brass cylinder liner).

I have never heard of an aluminum liner.

Call Dave Shadel to order, his number is listed above. Ask him about aluminum versus brass liners. I think you will change your mind.
You will not be disappointed with performance or durability!

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

We will not be making them in ABC. The AAC setups have proven that they are superior in heavy applications for racing and ducted fan use.

I am still awaiting orders and will not begin production until a minimum number is reached. We are halfway there at this point.

Get your sweaty hands on an Enya 40 - 45CX. Put it on your model and peak it out the way you normally would. Then peak it a bit more. You won't hurt it.

This engine (either size) has the ability to run leaner than other configurations. The result is that the engine hangs in there during the extreme vertical maneuvers without a hiccup or a hint of a sag. This is why AAC construction is my absolute favorite of all.

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

Dave,

I have read a document from Webra, that told the difference between ring / ABC and AAR. You are right, they will live longer, and even give more power. They are used in Webra's most powerfull engines, as well as YS as well it seems.
AAR seems the way to go, but still loving ABC as well.
But one question. Due to the weight difference of the piston, isn't it necessary to rebalance the piston/rod/crankshaft/... for the lower piston weight ? Anyway, as when I was very young, and tuning motorcycles, this was an issue, certainly if you wanted to get a high rpm. But certainly, the big end will love the lower weight.
Is there a way to tune the AAR to get even higher RPM ?

Dave Shadel 01-17-2007 12:09 PM

RE: Ballistic Pattern ABC Engine Liners

AAR is a ringed setup. We're not making ringed setups. AAC is a chromed aluminum liner with aluminum piston. The piston weight is essentially the same as the stock part.
