Pete, plans are in the postal system (HA!) for you as I type.............

ATTENTION:
Jeff W. from Oak Ridge NC You sent me $$ for plans, but just said Peppermint Pattie. Do you want .15, .40, or .60 size? |

RE: Peppermint Pattie
Rainedave,
You have mentioned you have a macro for CAD program that would export airfoil (or whatsever) to into a .dat file. Does it work with Autocad? Regards, Marian |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
No, Marian, it was written for Deltacad. But, if you have an airfoil you've drawn in AC you can email it to me and I'll export it into a .dat file and email it back to you. PM me and I'll reply with my email address.

That'd me me. Thanks for following up, Nic.
I have an MVVS .15 in rear exhaust form that spins an APC 7x4 at 19,250 on 5% that seems like it will be perfect for this plane. Regards, Jeff |

Ok, I suppose I could now build an accurate replica of the PP. I got this Fox .15 r/c that looks just like the one on the plans.

Regards, Jeff ---------------- You'd better take a LOT of pictures of the plane if you power it with that MVVS .15, 'cause it ain't goin' to be visible for long. <G> Mine was a rocket with a plebian HB .15 and I know it was NOT turning up that high by a couple of thousand rpm at least. I have my plans tacked to the wall in my spare bedroom and the little MVVS sits atop my mantle. Hopefully this will spark an impetuous fall build. Dave, You're not too far away. Where do you fly? Edit: The MVVS should put the ballistic back in ballistic pattern! |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
My sister lives in Oak Ridge on Stonecroft Dr. I live off W. Friendly. I belong to BARKS in Graham. I drove by the new field near Brown Summit a while back but it's actually not much closer time-wise. Where do you fly? We should get together!
David |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
I fly at CCRC. I'm about a mile and a half north of your sister on Daltonshire.
Have you started you Peppermint Pattie? We could save some time and cut out a couple sets of ribs. |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
I would love it if one of you guys would start a build thread. Maybe both of you?
My only advice is that you slope the rear of the belly pan. It make it easier than trying to fit a square one. I'll try to take a few photos this w/e for you. |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
I do have a Cox Conquest .15 that would make this plane more of an authentic piece, but trying to fit that muffler is a pain in the arse. I guess I'll cut some formers this weekend and see how it all fits.
Nic, Send some pictures of what you're talking about. Looking at the plans, I don't see any difficulties with the belly pan. Jeff |

Here's a shot of the belly pan, sorry it's off focus. Notice the rear end is sloped. It is much easier to install than a pan with straight ends. Also, you can use a dowel in the front.

Since we were snapping pictures, compare this one with the one posted on page 3, post#46. 31 years difference.

RE: Peppermint Pattie
Nick, beautiful! Are those cap strips glued onto a foam core, or did you make a built-up wing for this one?

RE: Peppermint Pattie
Cap strips over foam core.

RE: Peppermint Pattie
I've started on my PP .15 size. I have the formers, sides and ribs cut.
I'm at a crossroads for a power plant. I originally wanted to use my MVVS with rear exhaust, but it would require a lot of hacking and swearing to make it work. And then to top it all off I dropped the motor and broke the needle valve. [:@] I've decided (for the moment) to use an unused Cox Conquest .15. I haven't run that engine so I'm only relying on its reputation for being a screamer. It will require some minor trimming of the firewall, but it shouldn't be too bad. Or should I send Dar a PM and order another MVVS with side exhaust???[&:] The plans are designed around the Fox .15 which is quite compact (short). Both my .15's are rear exhaust and are quite a bit longer. Nic, I still don't understand what you mean for the belly pan. Please excuse my thick headedness. |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
Where are you going to find a header for the Conquest .15 that will climb immediate after the exhaust port with sufficient clearance for the fuel tank?
My first engine in my PP .15 was a Super Tigre G20/15 side exhaust engine. Even that compact engine required care during install in order to get everything to fit in that very limited space. Truthfully, the G20/15 was about the perfect power plant for me. I later replaced the G20/15 with an HB.15, which, strangely enough, was even more powerful than the ST G20/15. Much more powerful. Then the model became a chore to fly at WOT. Keeping it in sight was the problem for me. Maybe your eyes are better. I hope so. This was in the late Seventies/early Eighties when most of us flew around at full throttle all of the time just to hear the roar of the engine. A friend's Super Curare with piped Rossi and retracts was being test flown one day. It just so happened that on one pass down the field, we were going in the same direction at approximately the same location and time. My little HB .15 powered PP15 pulled away from his model with ease. None of us could believe it, so we did it several more times just to make sure that parallax wasn't fooling us. It turned out to be true that the little PP15 with the HB.15 was faster than a competitive pattern ship of the day. And it was a pattern ship that had a local reputation of being fast, even for a pattern ship. I was smiling from ear to ear, but the downside was that you really had to pay attention while flying it, or you risked losing sight of it. Ed Cregger, NM2K |

ORIGINAL: AllTheGoodNamesAreTaken Nic, I still don't understand what you mean for the belly pan. Please excuse my thick headedness. My current one uses a Magnum .15 swinging a 7x5 APC - it honks. |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
While you are in the construction phase, another hint:
The ailerons need a bit of differential. Since the servo is on the bottom of the wing, standard aileron hardware make the differential in the wrong direction. I reversed the hardware and used a Z-bend with wheel collars. I'll try to take a photo soon and post it for you. |
RE: Peppermint Pattie
Then, if I understand you correctly, the slanted rear section of the belly pan also provides room for the torque rods to lean rearward for proper differential. That is, if the servo was on top, the torque rods would lean forward, but since it's upside-down they need to lean back.

OK I get it now. ;)
Here is my "kit" ready for assembly. I can side mount the Cox Conquest with minimal modification, but then the muffler would hang down, which would require me to add landing gear. I'll post some pictures as I go. Dave, Are you going with a foam core wing? |
