Birdi XLT
Do any of you fine gentleman know the amount of dihedral on the wing and anhedral for the stabs?
The plans do not show the degrees just the incidence. |
RE: Birdi XLT
Measuring off the plans I got 1 1/8" (1.125) under each wing tip and 1 1/4" (1.25) under each stab tip with the stab upside down.

RE: Birdi XLT
You know I did not even think of that.
By the way thanks we are on it hot and heavy. |
RE: Birdi XLT
The dihedral for the wing is cut into the foam if you run a straight edge across the to of the wing it is flat from tip to tip, the bottom of the wing is tapperd from root to tip.

Okay thanks guys.

RE: Birdi XLT
I would have to say that this wing is suppose to have dihedral.
After looking at the plans the top of the wing is not flat. |
RE: Birdi XLT
If you have the kit the instructions say to lay the wing upside down on a flat surface and join the wing halves pg#3 para#11! I have built a number of the bridi xlt/escape aircraft so if you cannot lay a straight edge acrossn the top of the wing me thinks that you may missed that page in the instructions!
maybe flat is the wrong term you can lay a straight edge across the top off the wing and there should be no gaps gary:D |
RE: Birdi XLT
You are right I did miss that page.
All that I really have to go off of are the plans. I have tried to contact Birdi about buying the kit ,but it has been out of stock for over a year and I do not think that they are in a big hurry to bring it back. So this wing will build like a Daddy Rabbit that is flat on top and dihedral on the bottom. Looking at just the plans rainedave would be correct, but since you have the manuel then that says it all. Thanks guys,Daniel |
RE: Birdi XLT
As I remember all of Bridi's pattern ships had the dihedral set this way, "just enough, so the wings don't look like they a drooping on the ground". LOL

RE: Birdi XLT
This got me thinking and when I got home I looked at my XLT and the the thickest part oof the cord off the wing is straight across the top but as you move the straight edge back toword the trailing edgea gap does appear so yes it is straight or flat but it does tapper up and a gap is present as on the plans so I was right and wrong!!!!! such is life!!!!!!! just never noticed the dihedral on top before or if I did I forgot or something!! I do remember the last time I scratched this design the wing cores were a ticky cut but I have slept since then so I can't remember how we did it!!

RE: Birdi XLT
I am so confused I can not see right.LOL.
I do not know what to think. It has been years since I have seen one. My pops had one destroyed in the May 3rd tornado of 1999 in Oklahoma and I am just trying to build another for him or should I say us as he does not fly much anymore. |
RE: Birdi XLT
blue jay sells them there is a link on the spa site but I here they were out of them sometime back not sure if they are back in stock! my latest XLT was a blue jay kit.

My great planes dirti bridi shows 3/8 inch at center with wing inverted.

The XLT plans aren't of much help. There's this one little note.
The DB and UFO definitely have dihedral to the top surface of the wings. The Kaos series was flat on the top with dihedral created by the airfoil taper on the bottom. Looking at the XLT plans again, the bottom of the wing tip is even with the center line of the wing root. The top of the stab tip is even with the bottom of the stab root. See my pics above and that much will be clear. |
RE: Birdi XLT
rainedave, is there any XLT plans avaliable through a magazine services, like RCM?
