Thanks, guys. The Vintage meet in PA was a blast, I intend to go to more of them next year. Especially since I will build a .020 twin Jr Skylark just for the events!

But to keep on the Perigee topic, here's the latest photo: Block is all sanded down. notice the protective tape to prevent sanding into the "good" area. Then I smeared on some 20-minute finishing epoxy onto the balsa, and wiped it down with a paper towel. This will be the sealed base for a few coats of primer, brushed on and sanded down. Although I should spray the final coat on, I will brush it. after all, this is a working plane, not a show girl..........

OK, back to repair. Here's the block, liberally swathed in epoxy primer. I hope there will only be one coat needed. Looks good at this point, maybe some red auto putty.

Liberal amount of body putty, let it dry for a few days, then attack it with 220 grit wet, followed by 400 wet. I think we're ready to paint.

Well, today was just to beautiful to not go flying. Low 60's, no clouds, some wind. actually got to take some videos of the Perigee, including the much-wanted landings. Two of them, in fact. Got all my control throws where they should be, and probably need a touch of differential work. Funny, but she rolls to the right a tad quicked than to the left. Surprisingly, inverted requires almost no down, just a light pressure, hardly movement at all. Here's the links:

WEDJ, not funny, rolling quicker to the right, but what you would expect. Right roll, with torque, left, against torque. Mine does the same. with light(er) models than accepted as 'normal' these days, these things become more visible. They all do it, just the light ones let you see the difference.

I was thinking about the torque thing. Facing the nose, the prop spins CCW, so the torque on the plane would be CW, or to the left.

So I think it should roll quicker to the left, with the torque helping.

Hmmm....... Discuss.

WEDJ, standard a/c terminology, face the direction of flight, look from the back to the front. We say 'ALF' Aft, Looking Forward. Prop turns clockwise from rear, a/c resists torque by balancing with a bit of left roll. If you want to roll left you need to 'add a bit more' to overcome this torque. Rolling right you have this prop rotation helping the roll. Think of it like this, if the prop was held still, the right roll rate would be incredible!

I am sorry, but model engines, when looking in the direction of flight, turn the propeller clockwise (to the right from the top) Therefore the torque on the plane is to the left.

If you were to hold the prop still, the plane would roll to the left.

Are we saying the same thing but differently?

Torque reaction to the propeller for this model's engine rotation is left roll.
You have it correct, WEDJ.
That is a beautiful model, please be careful flying it off of that field! (I guess some of us feel an attachment to your model after your build thread!)

Yeah WEDJ, I got it completely assabout. Comes from try to think about stuff before sparrafart. I even took the thing out and tried it for myself. At high speed there seems to be precious little diff, but at low speeds it definitely rolls left quicker than right, snap rolls 2 to the left, 1 and a bit to the right. Doesn't explain your observation at all. I know you have two aileron servos, do you have equal L and R movement when you watch from the rear? I know that sometimes these computer radios seem to be telling you the right stuff, but the servo centres can be a bit off, giving more movement one way than the other...maybe?

Actually, I think the differential is off from one wing to the other. Gotta play with that some, but flying weather is getting very rare, parts of CT had snow yesterday.

I used to fly off the frozen reservior, and used lighter fluid for primer. As I get older, I'm not liking the cold so much. But I'll probably still fly when the weather is good.

Same problem here, Nick. Once it gets below 60F, I'm done for the year. The neuropathy in my feet and legs simply won't tolerate it.

I like the looks of the Perigee (sp?), especially the tail group.

Snow lucky you. For some reason it hasn't yet here. Missed us to the east and the west. But it's coming. Next fly in is on New Years Day.
