Rossi 60 ABC in Phoenix VI
 

Put the new Rossi in one of the Phoenix' here. Started first flip, right out of the box. APC 12X7. I have never used a tach. For a new powerplant, I am impressed. I have heard story's about the carb, but it comes down fine, great transition from idle. For a new ABC, looks good, sounds great. Using a Mac's muffler with adapter's, may have to use the single adapter and another Mac. Muffler hanging a little low, may go to a 2.25" wheel on front. I was told, 2 gallons to break it in. That will be in the air.
Any suggestion's on this Rossi, I would appreciate it, but all looks fine. Using 15% Omega. I had to try this out, vs. the OS61FX's in the other planes. I don't like the rear NVA in the tight opening.

That's too much nitro for a Rossi....at least for the Rossi engines I used to run. Unless things have changed, Rossi engines of this type are designed to run on low nitro and even no nitro. I think you'll be happy with the performance on 5%. With 5% you will be saving some $$$ and extending the life of your engine. Why not give it a try?

That raises a question. Do these latest Rossi's ship with extra head shims in the box?

JC - Rainedave - As far as I know, 15% is fine. I will ask Sahak at AXE Rossi in CA, which is best. I checked this fuel situation out, some time ago. A copper head gasket comes with it. I do not have it in. If 5% is the way to go, then I will do it.

After running the first tank, the engine was not that hot. It cooled down fast. No lean runs. More later, and thanks for info.

Unless this model of Rossi is different than its brothers, 0% to 5% without a shim and a medium to cool plug will give you the best performance and reliability. If you have to shim it to run 10 or 15%, then it was obviously designed to run 0%. From my experience, the less the better in Rossi's, MVVS's, Webra's, Moki's. Even if you shim it to run more nitro, it will still run better on less without the shim.

I have a Rossi 50 that thrives on 0% nitro and 10% oil.

i have a moki (2.10) and a .61 that use 0% nitro. the no nitro approach is a lot less corrosive on your engines btw. the 2.10 runs great (8000 rpm) and the .61 is sold with a 17,500 rpm on 0% nitro claim. i have yet to run the .61. we will see about that high of rpm. most european engines are designed to run on 0% nitro. i think they have very restrictive rules on nitro in europe.

I used to blend my own fuel.
On the Rossi .60 blackhead engines I flew back in the late 70s, I experimented with different oil and nitro mixes. The mixture which worked best was 3% nitro,
5% castor, 10% synthetic (UCON MA731) and 82% methanol. When the oil percentage is varied, this changes the density of the exhaust gas which also changes the sonic velocity in a tuned-pipe. So it was necessary to adjust the length of the pipe with the various fuel mixtures. The blend of 3% nitro and 15% oil provided the best results. This blend actually improved the "boost" from the tuned-pipe. The piped Rossi blackhead was absolutely the best engine for pattern I ever saw...and that includes the engines I saw at the TOC in Vegas. I don't think there has ever been a better engine for "ballistic pattern".

You're right about nitro being corrosive. Just ask mechanics who work on fuel dragsters.
Nitro is a powerful oxidizer....and that means rust on ferrous engine parts (bearings).
I also have a Moki/Mark .61 and haven't run it yet. Which glowplugs work best in your 2.10?

all of my rossi came with several head shim, use on thick and one thin one, if your using 15 percent on your .60, you will know you got it right when plugs seldom fail, and needle setting soften some.
