I finished the refurbishing of the Revenger and hope to take it out to fly today after being in storage for 30 years. The CG (thanks to jeff for providing the range off of his plans) with the new Futaba equipment and retracts fell right in between the CG range. Had to add a couple of reducing bellcranks for the nose steering and the retract air valve. Futaba didn't set their system to adjust the throws on the retract servo.

I am posting a few pictures. I hope you enjoy them.

The Revenger is a very pretty airplane, Dick. It is great to see an original get ready to fly again. Someone needs to do a build log on one of these!

Thanks Jim,
I plan on taking it out to the field this morning and give it a test flight. I will take some pictures.
I'll see if my lovely wife will take some with plane in the air and post them later today.

That is a very sleek and beautiful design. I never got the true sense of the fuselage shape from glancing at the plans. Enjoy the "reinstatement" flights.

Dick,
I am a recent UK member to this forum, and am about to start building a " Revenger" could you please advise if any side thrust is built in. Also I will be using an MVVS 61side exhaust  with a mini pipe finishing at the wing l/e.
Will this affect the anhedral angle of the tailplane?<br type="_moz"/>

RE: Revenger

You have some good questions regarding the side thrust. During the design phase and flight testing I found that the plane did not need any side thrust for the engine. The forward bulkhead has down thrust built into the design so that will not be an issue. Regarding the exhaust system you can see that I use a tuned pipe on mine with no ill effect to the anhedral stabilizer. You should not either.

You will find that due to the design of the fuselage it will fly straight and true even in a knife edge and breaks clean in a verticle stall. The plane is easy to fly and is very fast at full throttle you will be surprized how slow it will fly and land. I would recommend you add a 1/64th plywood doubler to each the side of tail area inside the fuselage to add strength to the tail. make it about 12 inches long. It will add support to the tail and also help with the balance since the plane has a minor tendency to be nose heavy. The additional weight (which is miner) will help it's spin carateristics and improve the landing.

RE: Revenger

Many thanks for your reply Dick. The reasonI asked about the angle of the anhedral tail is from the build artiicle for the Tiporare, where the designer (Dick Hanson) recommended reducing the angle on his design if Not using a tuned pipe. as i will be using a " mini pipe" I wondered if a similar reduction is necessary.
At the present moment i have just placed an order with " Eureka" for their short kit with foam core wings &amp; tail..................which should arrive in the Uk in about 4 weeks.
I will probably install E-Flite electric retracts and use seperate Futaba 3152 digital servos for the ailerons, rather than torque rods, as well as 2 seperate 3152's for each elevator half.
I will keep yu posted on progress.

RE: Revenger

Hi Dick,
I am well on with the build of the fuselage of the Revenger, but have a couple of questions for you regarding possible minor changes &amp; how they may affect the flying characteristics, as follows:-
As per current trends I will be installing seperate aileron servos in each wing with direct pushrods, this will allow me to split &amp; use the inner1/3rd of the ailerons as flaps, to slow down for landings into our club's relatively small field.
I am installing e-flite electric retracts, the nosegear unit of which I have had to mount horizontally on rails under the tank position. In order to have access for removal of the retract unit I will need to modify the top of the fuselage above the tank area to be removeable. If I do this I will have to set the canpoy further back than as shown on the plan.
Also I will probably use a single elevator push rod to a central link, bent to the angle of anhedral, with the horn centrally silver soldered in place.
Any comments or advice would be welcomed please

I am very interested in how this bird flies...

Hmmm Do I break my Bridi tradition?

By chance I opened the attached article. I could barely read it but saw some discussion about Charley Danley who won Expert that year. He was a fine builder and even better flier from Houston. I got to meet him in 1980 when I moved to Houston. Charley had won Sportsman, Advanced and Expert Nats in back to back fashion. One fellow competitor in Houston (Allan Johncock possibly) had explained that the following year he flew incredibly well in Masters also but he felt he got cheated from scoring well and hung his wings up. A shame and a loss to Pattern

Attached my completed Revenger, powered by ASP 61 with Eflite electric retracts, and 25% inboard flaps to slow down approach into our relatively small club strip.

Very nice machine, enjoy it. I noticed that you installed brace struts on the tail. Any reason for doing so?

My prefernce, but it seemed the glue area/slot depth for the fin was a little shallow, I also recollect Dick Russ having a tail integrity with his model.
Attached (hopefully) more pictures.
The model flies very smoothly, mine came out nose heavy, but is rock steady. Uses up a lot of sky, even with a stock 61 2 stroke such as the ASP.
