Classic Pattern Kit Needed
Greetings everyone,
Thanks to a fellow RCU member, I am the proud owner of a NIB Rossi Fire 61 rear exhaust!!!!:D:D(Thank you pgilbert). So, I am now looking for options as far as what kind of plane to put it in. It came with an offset header and tuned pipe so I am thinking about finding a plane that I can hide the pipe in the fuselage. What do you gentlemen think about this motor in a Bridi XLT? I have the Dirty Birdy 60 kit from Bluejay and I like the quality of the wood in the kit. Does anyone have any other suggestions with regards to a plane? If possible I'd like to find a kit that is readily available with built up wings (since I don't have any experience with sheeted foam wings). I did see however that the XLT has sheeted foam wings. Thanks in advance for your help. |
RE: Classic Pattern Kit Needed
Awww...Might as well take the plunge into the foam core world...Although I've never flown one I think the XLT should be a fine choice!!
I have a Bridi Escape kit which I believe is very similar to the XLT (I think the XLT is a little bigger)...Should be a straight forward build with no major hurdles except learning to sheet wings which shouldn't be a problem... I've been told to choose light (contest grade) 1/16 balsa to sheet the escape wings rather than the factory recommended balsa sheeting (3/32 i think??)... I would imagine your Rossi and XLT combo would be a really sweet set-up!! Good Luck in your decisions... Chuck |

I've been doing the same kind of brain storming. I recently got a Webra Speed rear exhaust, myself. I was thinking about Dan Hine's T2-A MK II. Upright installation, no regulator or pump necessary.

I was just about to edit my post and bring that airplane up...lol
I like the T2-A MK II...I believe that would be a glass fuse and foam wing type of kit..Is that correct?? Good one.. :D Chuck |

I've also been messing around with tracing the Escape in CAD. Dynamic Balsa has the wing cores. The fg canopy would require the most work.

ORIGINAL: rainedave The fg canopy would require the most work. David It's all set-up I'm just kinda waiting till I have some other glass work going... |
RE: Classic Pattern Kit Needed
Will you please make two?!
I'll PM you about this. David |
RE: Classic Pattern Kit Needed
Back when I was flying an Escape in the early 90's I trashed that ugly canopy/pipe cover for a compensator canopy. Now that was an interesting-looking airplane!
Edit: And make sure you watch the weight on either of these planes, they get heavy very quickly if you're not careful. |
RE: Classic Pattern Kit Needed
I gotta admit...I think that T2-A MK II is allot nicer looking airplane than the Escape or XLT...

Hey Fella's,
I've been thinking about getting an EU1A from Deadstick when they are available. Its a fairly large plane and I've gotten mixed results when talking to a couple of people on whether or not the Rossi will have enough power for the plane. What do you guys think? Maybe I'll give Deadstick a call and ask him what he thinks. Keep the suggestions coming. |

rainedave,
Check your Nimbus 2 plan in the database, the date on the plan and the wing belong to Perigee/Apogee. Evan. |
