I remember Mint Julep. I think the first one was in 1972 ? I took 2nd place in class A pattern, Phoenix V. I still have the silver tray's, which they gave out for trophy's, unless my wife threw them away in our several moves through the years. I have 2 of them, for different years. Traveled there with Dave and Sally, and our kid's. Two Chevrolet station wagon's with the clam shell door in the back. Eddie, what is the plane in the picture with Dave.

RFJ - Thanks. I worked at World, 1967 - 1969. I guess that came sometime when Tony F. was employed there, maybe mid-70's. An ARF in those days. Too bad John Maloney did not live to see how the ARF manufacturing took off. That plane would is very rare these days. Does anyone reading this forum have any info about this plane ?

Back in the mid '80s I bought one of the framed up Challenge IIs directly from Tony. Guess you could call it an ARC (almost ready to cover). Actually still have it and it is still unfinished. It seems to be another one of my 'one of these days' projects. Only have about twenty. :D

Make that twenty one. Just got my FK Arcomaster (Matt Arrow copy) ARC kit. It looks better in person than it did in the pics. Has roughly the same length, nose/tail moment arms and wing area as the Phoenix VIII. The fuse cross section is larger and much deeper though. And heavier. Well done epoxy fuse with light (20 oz total) wing/stab panels/control surfaces.

Never really thought about it, but yeah, I guess I am old enough. Was working fine about 10 years ago, but will have it worked on before it's in command again.

Hi guys, stumbled on this thread while looking for Don Lowe info. My story(short) RC'r from the 70s getting back in after love-kids-college etc. Bought a pattern fuselage with a ST.60 on it on RCU and I THINK it might be a Pheonix 8. Having trouble finding dimmensions or drawings to make sure of what I have before having foam wing cores made. Searched AMA archives and a over the web with little luck. Found Aztec Air listing it as available but the site says they are out of the country. Really need to get the wing figured out. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks, Gino. BTW, going to install a Kraft flight pack in it to go with the Kraft SS Tx made into a M*2K

THANK YOU ATLANTA!!! From the pics I would now say it's a Phoenix 7 because of the upright engine mounting. I guessed this plane was about 30yrs old. Sound right? The old ST.60 carb was kinda froze up but an overnighter in CLR fixed it and it runs great. Still need particulars on the wing. All I could do was make a template of the root from the fuse cutout. Maybe someone else will chime in with more info. Thank You Very Much! Gino

I'd venture to say someone will have (or can get) you some templates.. (you may do a "Pheonix 7" search of this forum and possibly find some info)

The fuselage is 56" long spinner to tail. Pay no attension to the paint roller in the first pic, I'll get to painting the shop walls when I have spare time! Gino

Phoenix 8 - About the P-8. I am away from home base right now, on someone else's computer. I pulled up some of my post's from P-6 build. Attached is the P-8 fuselage. The one you are showing is not a Phoenix. Check the wing saddle, and other areas.

I had one of these in the mid 80's(could be later but memory is failing me now). I remember it flew good but as an ARF by todays standards it was a POS. The fuse was ply wood with some type of foam and plastic covering, the wings were foam with some sort of plastic sheeting. I always felt that if I pushed it hard in the air the thing would just blow apart. The LG plates would pull out on almost every landing. Anyway it was not a quality kit by any reach.

Oh yeah I just remembered the fuse was bent like a banana. Basically it was crap.

The vertical fin on the Deception seems to be more rounded off in the pics I've seen. Course this could be a mod. I also did not see a thin extended turtle back in the pics that my fuse has. The quest continues! Thank You All! Keep the ideas coming. Gino

I am sorry I dont have my old pro line single stick with the coveted open gimbal.I added a snap roll button.think what it cost back in the 70's and what you got and think of what you spend now and how much more you get.I love seeing pics of the older pattern ships.I want to build some but where the heck do you find them???I did build a kaps and am considering a dirty birdy but I remember the tony benetti troublenake .help.
