RE: Old wise and skillful
Roguedog I'm with you on this, but I see all this super nice threads on here and some real nice pictures.
Don't get me wrong I like these threads 100% but it does not show me the way from step 1 how they do it. Like cloth weight, type of epoxy, if they thin the epoxy etc. etc. But I will get a hang of it, just have to open my mouth and ask more questions. If you don't ask you will never learn, thats why I started this thread. You guy's are my insperation and thats why I check classic pattern forum several times a day. Keep up the good work so I can learn something:D Take care.;) |

There's a picture of Mike Harrison's bipe in the main pattern forum under the Cajun Nats thread. No detail of the building, though. [/quote] Is it the Harmony? |
RE: Old wise and skillful
My first true pattern plane was a great planes tiporare. The instructions were pretty good about building a glass and foam kit. You'll find there's about a dozen different ways to sheet foam wings. I've defaulted to the easiest method. Trim the wood with a razor, tape enough sheets together for a wing set and smear an extremely thin layer of polyurethane glue. Then stick everythingback into the shucks and weight them down.

RE: Old wise and skillful
You know Mike, my last bird, came out brilliant, using a similar technique to yours.
My only change to yours is a coat of dope to start with, where you use balsarite. Having said that, I keep thinking that there's gotta be a lighter, better way to do beautiful models. I guess that's how we progress though, isn't it? |
