Hi Guys,

It's been awhile on this one. Today I marked the lines on the firewall for the engine mount. The Sequel calls for the engine to be canted. I decided to use a Dave Brown number: 6070 engine mount. This mount is the same diameter as the Tatone mount used in the original construction article. The mounting holes are only slightly different. After marking the lines on the firewall I drilled for and installed 6/32 bolts and blind nuts. I added some 1/8" ply behind the firewall so the bling nuts would have more wood to dig into. These blind nuts are just over 1/4" long and extended beyond the other side of the firewall if I did not do this. The engine mount was then drilled and tapped for 6/32 bolts to mount the OS MAX .61 SF that I am going to use.

It was on to the retracts next. I am using B&D pneumatic gear mounted to the firewall. This mounting process goes quickly. It will be on the the Fuse doublers and marking the firewall and former locations in the next update. Enjoy the pictures.

Hello Guys,

The Fuse doublers, 1/2" tri stock, 3/4" tri stock were glued to each Fuse side. The Flying Fork control horn was cut down and a 4-40 Dubro Safety Clevis and 4-40 rod were attached. It was into the Fuse jig after that. Formers: B, X and C have been glued in place per the original construction article. Later today the Firewall, former D and the Flying Stab will all be aligned and glued in place. More to follow.

I recieved a Sequel short kit from Dan yesterday, I just peeked in the box before I left for work... it looks nice! I need to get the Compensator style canopy, as the Dirty Birdy canopy that was included doesn't suit my taste. Leo, is this available from you?

Cheers

Hello Blake,

I was wondering if you know what kits Dan has avaialbe. There is also a construction thread on a Mach 1 as well and it seems that the quiality of the laser cut parts is quite good. Although I fly the current pattern (or at least try to) there are a couple of classic planes which I would not mind building just for the fun of it.

Thanks,

Teo

RE: SEQUEL, Laser cut kit

Hi,

Dan Walton, Laser Technologies,[email protected]still makes Sequel short kit if anyone is interested to get one. I ordered a Sequel short kit some days ago and he is making one for me now. As I understand it the canopy shipped with the short kit is not same shape as the original Sequel as shown on the original drawing and I think I have read it was some source for the correct canopy, I have to investigate that. Is it maybe Leo (GlockGuy) that makes the correct canopy?

The construction article for Sequel was in two parts, part 1 in American Aircraft Modeler January 1975 but in what issue was part 2?

Jim,

Great - that saved me from buying the AAM January and February 1975 issues from US at sky high price.

3dsky,

The PDF Jim posted above contain both part 1 and part 2.
Part 2 was in AAM February 1975 issue I figured out after reading part 1 where they mentioned "next month we wil complete the model...".

Leo,

I've been rereading your thread with much interest and look forward to any further progress on it.

Wonderful building!

Hi David,

Thank you. I'm going build a fiberglass pattern plane or two before I get back to The Sequel. Most likely a rear exhaust design. Not sure if I will do a build thread or not.
