Pipe Testing
 

I was all set to do some pipe tuning/testing today. I packed up the car and drove down to the schoolyard (where noise isn't an issue). I remembered to bring everything except a spare 9v battery for my tach. I went ahead and ran a couple of engines, but I'll have to go back again tomorrow to get some tach readings. I still had fun (but my ears are ringing). Pictured below are my Rossi .61 RE and Webra 1030 RE. Both engines seem to run great.

Anyway, I'll try to post some rpm numbers tomorrow.

I've been meaning to ask you the same thing. Iseem to remember you designing it - beautiful stand. Do you happen to have the plans/drawings for it?

Ireally need to get a good stand. Waiting for aircraft to be ready prior to running/testing engines is not a great way to go.

BTW, if you go back with your Tach, it'd be great to see some figures for your piped S40 (but Iknow you're running 60's) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif

No, I won it off the auction site. I do not know the guy making them, but they are absolutely first rate stands. He is clearly a skilled woodworker. It's the best test stand I've ever used. His seller name is eyespy241 and here's a previous auction:

I think he makes them in batches; there aren't any up right now. He saw a post of mine a while back in the engine forum and is using my photos of my G.60 BH and TD .051 in his auctions. But, I honestly have no connection with him (I did tell him it was ok to use my photos). Just keep watching. I got mine for $36! They are worth $50 or more, IMO.

Sure, I'll run the S.40 with the pipe. I'm not going to push it too hard, though. BTW, will the current ST .40 conrod fit the S.40?

Thanks for the calrification and info. I'll keep an eye out. Nice stands.

Dunno about the current conrod. Do you need one? I found the folks at ST get back to me pretty quickly when I have questions.

BTW, both those beasts above need either a Deception or an Escape! Or is it one each!? Ibet we're getting close to a UFO maiden...

I should get the replacement nose gear back from Robart any day. I've set up the radio/control throws. I just need to bolt in the engine and mount the pipe bracket. I hate having to drill a hole in the fuse side.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sappointed.gif

With a fresh battery in the tach, I did some more running today. These are both used engines that I cleaned up and restored. I'm sure I could trim a bit more off the headers and gain a bit more, but I'm very impressed with what I got. Readings are peak. I would back off a few clicks for flying.

Rossi RE with old-style Mac's Muffled Pipe:

The Rossi was fitted with an OS #7L carb and the Webra has a Dynamix. The #7L was leaking a bit around the needle valve, so it needs a new O-ring. The seal against the case might have been leaking a bit, too, since it didn't want to shut down. The Dynamix is maybe the nicest carb I've ever used. Both the low speed and high speed needles have a very broad range. Transition is great with no loading up in the midrange. No problem at all with fuel draw at any setting. Though, the fact that my test stand has an 8oz tank might be helping that a bit.

I think the Webra absolutely deserves to have a plane built for it.

I also ran my Super Tigre Bluehead .40 with a pipe, but I'll put that data in the Tach forum.

Hey Fella's

I have a very similar break in stand at home still in the box. If I can remember, I will take a look at it tonight and let you know the manufacturer tomorrow. They are indeed very nice stands. You do however have to spraythe clear on it yourself to make it look better and last longer.
