I will be laying up a couple of F/G fuses for this plane and wondering if anyone would be interested in one before i place my order for materials.

Phil,

I am most interested assuming they are reasonably straight, reasonably "not that heavy", can be shipped to the US without a ba-jillion dollar tax...and you have a target price of somewhere between "that's is too cheap" and "ah, are you including the wing engine and radio".

Will you provide a source for the wing/stab and or make them available as well?

Hi,

Can You tell us a little more about the Saturn SE?
Only thing I know is that it was designed by Ivan Kristensen.

Where to get plans?
Was it a construction article in RCM or Model Air Plane News about the Saturn SE?
And as said, where to get foam wing and stab?

I haven't calculated the cost yet. The Saturn SE is 64'' WS. and should weight around 8.5lb . I have a set of plan that i can get copied, I am not sure if there ever was a construction article on the Saturn. If everything pans out i could also supply the cores if needed.
This plug has not been used in over 30 odd years. It does need some tlc. to bring it back to par.
Will keep you posted on the progess.

I believe the Saturn was published by MAN sometime in 1974 or maybe 1975. I have a copy of the article, but there isn't any date on the pages. The only date reference I could find is on the plan, "Inked by Bob Noll October 1974". I don't have any info on the Saturn SE version.

Hi,

The "Saturn" in MAN October 1975 I clearly remember I have read about  - if I remember correctly it was yellow with light blue and some red trim color. Nice plane also. I suppose the newer Saturn SE was enhanced and maybe flies even better.

How do you do that!? Infallible...

You know, every time a question like this comes up that you typically have an answer for, it would be great if it were added to a simple database program with the specs and any comments on the plane. This could be built by the CPF community little by little and then, 10 years from now, it will become the golden reference standard for any and all information on our hobby. It is things like this whose rights typically end up being bought by a large company and become widely used - not that that, in itself, would be the goal for the time being.

In any case, once again, it would be an interesting read.

Phil,

as a fellow Canadian, I've always felt that it was my duty (so to speak) to build a Kristensen design one of these days. I always had my mind set on the Summit but your proposition sure does make one reconsider. I particularly like the SE version given it is of the vintage of my youngster years. Please add me to your list of would like a set of cores, plans and fuse. When you have the details on cost and so forth, please let us know.

Bo,

Main changes are -

Ailerons made shorter and wider
Wing made lighter by using cutouts (honeycombing as we would call it now)
Nose lengthened by 1/4"
Tailplane lowered 5/8"
Thrustline lowered 1/8"
Rudder shape changed and subfin added.
More powerful engine - Webra Speed & pipe.

you are a 100% correct on those changes. I will supply the cores with the ailerons taper. It will be up to you if you want to cut them off and build them out of tri stock, unless you give me directions otherwise.
This weekend was our Thanksgiving long weekend and i spent most of monday working on the mold. It will be all good, can't
wait to pull one out. Two layers of 6oz should do it.

.Hey Dave don't worry, i have a Summit and a Legend 5 on the back burner as well as an original Tipo and EU-1a kit just sitting here. One thing at a time, not enough hours in the day. You might see a couple of building threads.

Hey Phil,
Is that the original Summit design? I always loved the look of that model. The later SUmmits, especially the III was much more jet looking. Is the Legend 5 a Piorun kit? Was that a 60 sized version or the later 1.20 size? Some NICE projects!!

The Summit i have yes is the three, another great design from Ivan K. Both the Legend and Summit are 60 size.

Phil,

excellent news. I look forward to seeing that first pull from a 30 yr old mold. Are you considering using some CF in the nose section between glass layers? Perhaps some down the sides behind the TE?

I'd be interested for sure Phil, as long as the cost is tolerable, reasonable, okay manageable. We had two guys flying the Saturns in our club in the late seventies and they flew beautifully.

I will pull 10 fuses for now, thats what i have ordered the materials for and that will give me a rough idea per unit.
Will keep you posted.I am waiting eor my new digital camera to come in and i'll post some pictures.
